Panthers, Bears
Ready For Battle
On Redmond Floor
Redmond and Bond high school
basketball loams, two of the top
contenders for district honors and
. a trip to the state tournament at
Eugene, will undergo a pro-tournament
test of strength when
they meet in an extra game at
Redmond tonight.
So far this season the Boars
have scored two close victories
over the Panthers, but in neither
case was the margin sufficient to
make the Lava Bears a certain
favorite for the district title.
Tonight's game will give the
Bend five a chance to become
familiar with the larger Redmond
floor, on which tournament games
will be played next week end and
will also give Redmond a chance
to plan a little strategy against
the Bend team In case the two
cluhs should be finalists at the
playoffs next Saturday night.
. Big Crowd Expected
A large crowd from Bend will
attend the Redmond game to
night. One hundred general ad
mission tickets were sent here
early in the week and 150 Bend
students have received tickets.
Coach Claude Cook expects to
start Jerry Toole, Phil plllis. Bill
Shef fold, Dick Maudlin and eith
er Babe Maudlin or Jack Gilfillan.
Redmond is one of the closest
checking teams that Bend has
played this year and has manag
ed to throw the Bears' fast break
into low gear on most occasions.
The Panther five has seldom al
lowed any of its opponents to
score over 40 points this year.
The past week end they turned in
victories over John Day -and
Burns, the latter game complet
ing their Central Oregon schedule
with a record of eight wins and
two losses. , . ;
Don Fawcett Coming
Don Fawcett, popular Portland
official, will handle the floor work
for tonight's game. -Fawcett is to
be one of the officials at the tour
nament games next week end.

To Shoot Sunday
Three hours of shooting, no
more, no less, is in store for Bend
Trap club members Sunday, of
ficers of the group announced to
day. Shooting will start promptly
at 10 a. m. and end at 1 p. m.
"Stragglers" who come late can
not be accommodated, the officers
indicated.
Ammunition and targets will be
available at the club, and visitors
will be welcome. Sundays shoot

weeks until fishing season opens but that
just seems to make me lazier.
