Building Shares
Attain New High

New York, May 7 Uh Building
shares rose to new highs today
to feature an irregular, moderate
ly active stock market.
This group registered gains
ranging to more than a point.
Others of the so-called peace
group moved ahead on active turn
over, while some selling developed
In such war Issues as the rails
and steels. However, there was
no particular pressure and the
whole market presented a very
orderly appearance.
In the building section new tops
were made by American Radiator,
Certain-teed, Crane company,
Flintkote, National Gypsum, and
U. S. Gypsum. Household shares
such as Bon-Ami B. were up sub
stantially in several Instances.
Rail equipments were bid up to
several new highs. Eastern and
American made new highs in the
airline issues. Motors made new
highs and the lower-priced issues
retained gains. Tire issues were
featured by U. S. Rublier which
gained more than a point.
Lumber Industry
To Play Big Role
Washington, May 7 U')
-The
war production board today called
on the lumber industry to produce
at a maximum capacity to meet
war needs and Increasing civilian
requirements for reconversion.
J. A. Krug, WLB chairman, said
in a letter to the lumber industry
that military needs in the Pacific
war are Increasing and that a
larger amount of lumber will be
needed in the partial reconvers
ion period following V-E day."
Krug also told lumber producers
"tnal direct military requirements
in tne European theater will In
crease during the period of de
ployment of men and material"

cific theater.
