Bureau Awards Ditch Contract The United Construction com pany of Seattle has been award ed a contract to construct nearly ll) miles of ditch laterals over 4,200 acres of the North Unit Ir rigation company, it was report ed today at the offices of the bu reau of reclamation here. The firm bid $101,395, and the con tract was approved by the secre tary of interior in Washington, D. C, according to word received here. February Yields Bend weather this past month was just about normal, with a mean temperature of 35.0 degrees registered and 1.46 inches of mois ture recorded, observers in charge of the local airway weather sta tion announced today. The mean temperature was just .8 of a de gree above the 43 year normal for February and the total pre cipitation was only .OJiof an Inch under the long time mean. Highest temperature in the 28- day period was 51 degrees, re corded on the 7th, and the mini mum was 5 above zero, recorded on Feb. 19. Four inches of snow fell in the month. Skies were cloudless on only two days, and precipitation fell on 17 different days. Weird Nightmare Lands Man in Jail Portland, Ore., March 5 (IP). -A nightmare was reported as the reason for Ralph W. Daniels, 39 of Portland being in jail today. Daniels said he was having a vivid nightmare about someone chasing him with a gun. In re ality, Daniels jumped out of his third-floor room, landed on a sec ond story skylight and crawled through a window of a room oc cupied by a woman.
