He also fetches water from -a next door pump by following a clothes line as a guide. The family's meals are prepared by Clara, 55, who can cook a tasty dish on the stove invisible to her. Moving with sure steps, she also keeps the home in first-rate order1. Born deaf and dumb, the Ed dahls early learned to become in dependent despite a double handi cap. Then, as each neared the age of 20,' his eyesight' began to fail and he had-to learri to live in an invisible as well as silent world. . The only assistance, the Erdahls now receive' is from a neighbor woman; who talks-with them througH'the'Hand' language and who' helps buy their groceries, handle their finances and assists I .with the washing.
