Downward Turn .
Made By Stocks
By Elmer C. Walzer
(United Press Financial Editor)
New York, Feb. 8 tu?) Stocks
turned down slightly In the lead
ing averages just before closing
time today and broke a rise that
had been In progress for seven
consecutive sessions.
The losses were small and con
sidered insignificant in trading
circles. The general average fin
ished with a decline of only 9
lOOths point.
The market rise was based on
technical factors. However, Wall
street analysts ran up danger sig
nals on the belief the high level
of stock prices might soon be
given a-selling test.

Ifcr equaled the heighs. The lead
ers moved narrowly, uains ot one
to two points were noted in spe
cial stocks. Superior Oil of Cali
fornia, the star performer in re
cent sessions, ran up more than
eight points to a hew high. Pre
ferred stocks in the rail, and util
ity divisions had advances run
ning to nearly four points.
Aviation Corporation was the
most active issue traded. It made
a new high. Baltimore and Ohio
and Packard were poor contend
ers for second and third. ...
