Steel shares turned un and a stable group of rails displayed i rallying tendencies. Farm equip ments were well up on the strong list. Cains ranging to more than a point were noted in some of the rail equipments, building stocks, automobile Issues ,and specialties. The rail average sagged because of a 2-point drop in Norfolk & Western and loss of more than a point in Louisville & Nashville. In the aircrafts, Grumman rose more than a point while Douglas lost nearly 2 points. Franklin Si mon preferred spurted 9 points, the widest gain while Westing house Electric preferred dropped 514 points. ' American Telephone, yester day's weak spot, held around the previous close late in the day after rising more than a point from its low. II. S. Steel rose a point from its low and Bethlehem more than a point, each registering fraction al gains near closing time. Can stocks improved with American up more than a point.
