delighted if Miss Lawrence approves

No one could have told what San
dra's emotions were. If it was tri-

"Stick around. Dan." she advised
idly. "Mr. Eustace will lake good
care of Monnie and, after all, you
can see her tomorrow any lime."
Her flashing glance advised the
company that Monnie was always
available. All the other girl's soul
lose in outrage at this hclnlenge.
"Nol quite that," she said coolly.
"I'm (rightfully busy these days.
See you sometime, Dan."
Her heart was heating very fust
ns she felt Dan and Sandra alone
together. She felt n little sick and
her victory tasted bitter in her
mouth.

Sandra came rushing into the
drug store the next day, quite ns if
nothing had hapiwned. In the face
of her bright cordiality Monnie
could do nothing. Hadn't she, after
all, made the initial slcp the night
before? Hadn't she offered to leave
Dan with Sandra, going off home
Willi Charles Eustace? Oh, she was
just fidgety and suspicious, that was
all! Sandra was so sweet you hnd
lo trust her!
"You minx!" Sandra exclaimed
archly.

contemporaries. Munnie had never
felt a surge of irritation at this
assumption before. Now she exper
ienced it Of course, Sandra was

dra demanded.
"Nothing at nil," Monnie said
hastily.
"Well, then, I'll tie going," drawl
ed Sandra over her .shoulder. "See
you soon."
She had not said a single word
about Dan, had. in fact, delilcralcly
left his name out of Ihc conversa
tion. Monnie burned to know what they
had talked alx.ut the night before.
Sandra was her good friend. But
what had she said to Dan about
