George G. SedKwiek. Desohuies
county commissioner and owner of
an 80 acre tract of Irrigated land in
the northwest Redmond district, does
not claim to be one of the leading
agriculturists In Central Oregon, al
though he has been closely in touch
with this industry since coming here
from Marlins Ferry. Ohio. 10 years
ago.
Rut regardless of his assertion that
at present he is merely getting the
pioneer V. M. Ogg farm in shape,
and his suggestion that his interview
er go across the canyon to the Heels
Bros, dairy ranch for material for a
farm Wrltenp! it was found that Sedg
wick has made a study of certain
phases of agricultural work and farm
development which are well worthy
of mention.
Busied with his work as county
commissioner and with land Invest
ments In this connty and the Lone
Pine community of Crook county.
Sedgwick has little time to spend in
personally improving the Ogg farm,
now being worked for the first time
in several years. Cnable to give "his
own time to his newly acquired farm.
Sedgwick has secured the services of
J. N. Hughes, said by the county com
missioner to be one of the best, irri
gators in this section of Misv-stnte.
Hughes works from daylight until
dark, caring for the 52 acres of cul
tivated land on the 80 acre tract.
History Interesting
The history oi this farm, as re
called by Sedgwick, is interesting. At
one time the Ogg place was held as
an example in ell parts of the Red
mond community of what could be
done with a small sum of money and
a tract of raw land in Central Oregon.

gives this advice to prospective Cen-;
tral Oregon land owners and to per-'
si-us who are new in the agricultural
"game." Practicing "what he preaches.
Sedgwick this year planted approxi
mately eight acres to potatoes. The'
remainder of bis acreage Is planted '
villi grain crops and alfalfa, the new'
aifalfa tracts being planted to a cover!
nop of oats. Realising that the'
proper utilisation of water is a major
factor in farm work in Central Ore
gon. Sedgwick secured the services
of YV. R. Lawson. supervisor of irri I
ration in the northwest Redmond
district, in laying out his ditches on
his potato land.

the distant future, when every gallon'

and laterals must be accounted for
if the agricultural industry In the

imum returns. Sedgwick, whose
work as county commissioner takes
him to all parts of the county, de-
plorea the system of irrigation whe 1 1
so much water goes to waste .in many
places flooding roads.
Sedgwick believes that the exten
sion of the railroad south from Bend

I produce will be shipped to the great!
California cities. The extension of

Dlatumlte Intereets
As Sedgwick willingly answered 1
bis interviewer's questions in his neat
fi.rni home a little over two miles
northwest of Redmond, he frequently
n ferred to his coming to Central I
I Oregon. Although Sedgwick cime
here primarily for the betterment of
bU health, his attention was first a
it'acted to this part of the state
'through correspondence with a
Ifrlerid. Delmar l-add Leaving the
I government service iu Ohio, in which
he was employed for over 1 years.
Sedgwick came to Redmond with the
intention of filing on a homestead.
He never carried out his plans of tak
ing up a homestead, but he acquired
land in several sections of the Des
chutes and Crooked river country.

will be of untold value to Central

That Sedgwick is taking a keen
