the final touches on preparations for the greatest convention

The near irageily took place when
the girl, who reached home about
4:81, al templed to light a fire In
the kitchen stove. Kerosene waa
poured over the kindling and coals.
Immediately the stove waa envel
oped in a mass of flame flamis
which shot toward the girl's hands
uml arms. The flamtni; oil dripped
to the floor. endaiiK'Ting the home.
When the Hend fire department
answered the general alarm, they
found thai the fire was under con
trol, hut that the girl waa painfully
burned about the hands and arms.

at all t fines, the firemen adminis
tered first aid to the girl. It la not
bellivwl that the burns will result in
any permanent Injury.
Aside from Ihe burns suffered by
Ihe girl, damage from the fire was
negligent. The only pan of the
house damaged was near the stove,
especially ihe floor where It wan
touched hy the burning oil.

The McKenzie pass was
crossed by an automobile for the
first time this year shortly be
fore noon by John K. Hansen 'if
Redmond, O. A. C. student, ac-
cording to Con Hall of the local
Union Oil Co. plant; who was in
Sisters today. Hansen left Cor
vallis at 1 1 o'clock yesterday
morning. He reached Sisters in
his Ford hiijr at 11 o'clock today.
Hansen does not advise nny mo
torist to attempt to cross the
pass for about one week yet.
His traveling time between Cor
vallis and Sisters was nine
hours.
