USEFUL KNOWLEDGE
When old Pete Peters ilijrs a weH 1 statu! around be
Bhrewing, ami asking things, and have him toll just what
be thinks he's doing. At such a task he's wearing bells,
ami while the facts he's giving, I know as much concerning
wells as any gent now living. 1 see Bud 1'ilkins teaching
hens to SWim around like fishes, and i lay down my ink
and pens the truth my spirit wishes. He says that every
hen should swim as we'd as duck or otter; it puts new pep
in winir and limb, cavorting 'round in water. Whenever
I behold a man engaged in something useful, 1 gather
'round him, if I can, and ask him questions juiceful. Some
times he'll tell me to disperse, he has no time for talking,
and now and then he'll roundly curse, at helpful converse
balking. But nineteen out of twenty skates are glad to
blithely chatter of how and why they're painting gates, or
printing reading matter. Yea. nineteen out of twenty guys
are cordial in explaining just why they're milking custard
pies, or doing walnut graining. I store these jazzy facts
away, preserved in mental brandy, and every one, upon a
day, is sure to come in handy. In chatting with our fellow
men we gain more useful Aiiowledge than from the giants
of the pen, or wise men in the college. The cobbler talks of
cowhide shoes and what he knows of leather is more in
forming than the views of all the scribes together.
THE NEW FACTORY hand in horucAead location work.

Has heen authorized that the plans
f the company have matured and

very gratifying news for Bend, and
while it is what has been expected
for some lime it is tione the less wel

in a small way. but the addition of

There Is to be an east and west

from John E. Burchard. who heads
