proximately 100 per cent more early,
potatoes have been planted, or are
being planted, this spring than in ;
former years.
If plans for the proposed rail ex-;

out, it is predicted that Cenrral Ore-,
gun will came into its own as one of
the greatest potato producing cen- j
ters of the coast. Much of the po-1
tato surplus of the mid-state country
will find a ready market in Califor
nia, where hundreds of carloads of
potatoes are shipped in each year.
Although more early potatoes are
being planted this year, it is esti
' mated by McDonald that the total
planting of potatoes will not exceed
that of former years.
Potato planting Is now well under
way in all parts of Deschutes county,
reports McDonald.
