SUPPORT THE BOARD With all due respect to the several hundred people who gathered at the gymnasium last night "to discuss the school situation" The Bulletin maintains that there is nothing to discuss beyond the question of whe ther the disciplinary measures adopt ed by Miss I'mbaugh in punishment for the high school revolt are suffl cient. We agree that this takes for granted that there was no Justiflca tion for the walk-out. That we think Is not arguable. Whenever the pupils in our schools begin to think that they can run them, select their own teachers and dictate to the school board there can be no argument. There is just one thing to do and that is to disabuse them of the idea. In some quarters there Is dislike of and dissatisfaction with Superin tendent Moore. The persons who have this feeling have seized the present occasion as an opportunity of forcing him out when, as a matter of fact, the question of his competence or in competence has absolutely no bear ing on the situation. Undoubtedly he was at odds with Mr. Paulson last spring. That fact, however, had noth ing to do with the board's dismissal of Mr. Paulson. The present issue should be settled without dragging in Superintendent Moore. So far as the question of the board's Justification in discharging Mr. Paulson is concerned the only persons in position to question it are tax payers. They may reasonably In quire whether' the board was right because of the liability in damages that will affect them, if it was wrong. To do so, however, they should come to the board and discuss the question around a table. They should not dis cuss it, as it was discussed last night, as a grievance of the pupils. The Bchool board, let ns remember, is charged with the administration of a considerable Investment and the re sponsibility of so adminfsterng that investment that it will produce the best educational results for the chil dren of the district. We have had no complaint that it was failing in these duties. It Ib a thankless task, as we fcrve said before, and the part of good citizenship at this time is to give the board the support to which it is entitled. RipplingRhumes The Accident Oh, jings, how sick a driver feels, when he looks down and sees a voter tangled in his wheels, with mangled hat and knees! Me looks down through remorseful tears, and sheds magenta sweat, and though he live a hundred years, he never will forget. At most times he's a thoughtful cuss, who scans the road with care, as he propels his foaming bus adown the thoroughfare. Bui now a neighbor with him rides, and he would show her speed, and open wide the throttle slides, and she saws wood, indeed. She madly rips around a curve, and there the voter stands; it is too late, alas, to swerve, and on his frame she lands. The poor pedestrian lies flat upon the dusty lea ; the ruins of his Sunday hat are pitiful to see. The crown is dented here and there, the brim is badly torn, and never, on a Sab bath fair, can it again be worn. The voter, borne upon a door, is taken to the town, and babbles of the hat he wore, when he was stricken down. Oh. never may you know the pain of such a scene, I pray, and never may your gilded wain run down some hapless jay. Leave black remorse to t'other chaps, nor know the pangs they feel, and never let your caution lapse when you are at the wheel.
