Is the Keynote to Prosperity
Before any city can become prosperous it must have a universal con
fidence. Its business houses must have confidence in the buying public,
so that they will secure sufficient stocks of merchandise to meet the local
demand. '
The buying public must have confidence in the local merchants, so
that they in turn will supply their every -day wants from the local stores,
thus allowing the merchant the profit that will pay his taxes, build new
buildings, employ help and make further investments in new stocks.
The first confidence, of course comes with the man who has capital
to buy property, erect buildings, buy merchandise and maintain a busi
ness until sufficient stock can be sold to produce profit enough to allow
that business to operate.
But the confidence of the buying public in the man who makes that
first investment is of the greatest importance and can at no time be lost
sight of.
If for any reason the buying public loses confidence in the merchants
of its community, and in a vain effort to save a few pennies, sends out of
town for its daily needs, the hope of prosperity to that community is
nipped in the bud. Non-support of the buying public to the local merch
ant will, without fail, jeopardize the chances of success of any community.
The surest way for a buying public to hinder the prosperity of a community is
to foster the idea that merchandise can be purchased for less elsewhere than at
home.
In no instance can anyone save money by sending away for merch
andise, IF HE WILL COMPARE QUALITY.
Saving on your purchases means getting more value for the same
amount of money. This cannot be done anywhere but at home. You
can buy cheaper merchandise, but in the end it always costs you more
money, because it does not give the service.
In all cases your home merchant will give you more consideration,
better merchandise and the only real service you can expect.
