( Br Un itcd Pros to The Bend Bulletin) PORTLAND, Sept. 14. A cam paign against the measure which would place further taxes and re strictions on the manufacture and sale of oleomargarine in Oregon will be backed by the Associated Indus tries of Oregon. The Associated Industries a group of manufacturers organized for the purpose ot promoting Ore gon payrolls, maintains that the oleo margarine bill' on the November bal lot is a direct attempt to throttle the industry. SAKE STILL USED BY JAP PRIESTS No Effort Blade In Honolulu To En force Prohibition Ruling Barring Rice Brew From Temples. HONOLULU, Sept. 14. No efforts are being made here at present to enforce the recent prohibition ruling at Washington that sake, a rice liquor, should not be used for sacra mental purposes in Japanese temples. Due to the age-old custom of using sake. Chief Deputy George Ashley of the revenue office has requested relief of some sort from Washington officials for the Buddhists and those of other Beets. It was held by the United States supreme ceurt, in 1916, that sake was a wine, and it was taxed as such. This ruling is now reversed, and sake is classed as a brew, which prevents it from being used for sacramental purposes. (By United PreM to The Bend Bulletin) PARIS, Sept. 14. Poor Paris is particularly unlucky this summer. Se had counted absolutely on a ver itable invasion of rich Americans, who would spend enough of their good, hard dollars In France to cause the rate of exchange to readjust. As a matter of fact, owing to the lack of steamships, only a very lim ited number ot Americans has come. And now, in place of this very de sirable invasion, Paris finds herself invaded with rats. Health special ists and newspapermen who have been peeping into the subject place the number of rats now in Paris at about 8,000,000. As a matter of fact, the rats have all been here for some time past, but no one thought about them until a few cases of pest were discovered about the city. While it was quick ly established that these cases were purely sporadic and were easily Iso lated, it was pointed out that if Paris' 8,000,000 rats should sudden-j lv take it into their heads to see what tbey could do in the matter of propa-J gating the pest, or some other dis ease, they might make considerable I headway before the Paris health au-l thorities, in a counter offensive, could pull off another battle of the Marne. Jud Tunkins. Jud Tunkins says It might be bettei for the world If tombstones were more reliable. No matter what kind of a life a man leads, lie's almost sure of a complimentary epitaph.
