County Superintendent of Schools
J. Alton Thompson Is busy working
out the details of the county Insti
tute, which will be held In Bend Sep
tember 1 to 3. Among the speak
er expected In ProfoBsor John Al
mnck of the extension department of
the l.'nlverslty of Oregon, who will
deliver several addronses of a nature
which will Interests citltenn of Bend
an well us teachers.
The schools will not open until
Tuesday. September 7, but all of the
teachers will be here for the Insti
tute. Principal E. J. Croxier Is ex
pected to arrive here Monday, to get
in touch with conditions and plan
the year's work before school opens.
The response to tho cull for places
for thn teachers to room has been
very gratifying, says Superintendent
MOore, but more offers are desired.
In plnco of the superintendent's of
fice finding places for out of town
girls to work while attending school,
the work will bo handled by the
Woman's Protective league, under
the personul supervision of Mrs.
Stockwell.
The teaching vacancies have not
all been filled, but acceptances are
coming In from those already elect
ed. There are three yet to be
elected.
Of lust years' force of teachers,
over 50 per cent will not return this
year, so that with the added num
ber a lurge share of this year's stuff
will be newcomers. Superintendent
Moore was able to give tho plans of
most of those who taught last year
nnd will not return.
Miss Marker, Miss Rudolph and
Miss Khorbes ure going to Honolulu
to tench in a government school.
Minnie Thompson Is also going to
Honolulu.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and Miss
McCorkle will tench in Seuttle. Miss

tended the annual convention of the
Oregon State Editorial association,

The convention, which opened yes
terday, will conclude its business this
afternoon. Sunday will be spent In
"seeing the sights," surf bathing and
other beach pastimes.
