You have to have things done for you in the matter of clothes and other things to wear. Somebody has to get all the goods together in one place, where you can look at them, and select. That's our function in the community providers of things men , weai We 'sell the best we can get ,as low as we can ; we're sure you will get value. There is'no use dodging the point. The public is getting tired ' of paying high prices for clothes tha'do not give lasting satis faction. There have even been charges of profiteering. The truth remains that buyers are protesting against excessive prices for clothing of mediocre quality. You realize this condition as well as we. The trade press is full of it, and all the retailers' associations are discussing it. Moreover, the newspapers vare telling it to the. public- It is not -merely because prices are higher than formerly. The protest comes from prices that are often higher than the actual value of the clothing justifies. Men wan GOOD clothes and they want them FAIRLY priced. They are willing to spend money for clpthes but they want to know that they are get ting full value for their money. ! We are here to show you the best there is at a saving. ASTORIAN ATTACKS WILSON IN ADDRESS FOR JOHNSON TT r f 1 1. c tli a nnm! nallnr ""nf T4tiam -Johnson of California for president '-. by the republican party, Charles Robinson, Astoria attorney, , speak- lng last night before a small audi- enBce at the Hippodrome, sketched the history of the California!!, de claring that he had done more for America than any man living, and launched a vigorous stack against the democratic party, apd particu larly against the policies of President Wilson as exemplified in article 10 of the League io( Nations covenant. Aside from Shis' caustic criticism of the democratic party! i tne speaker's appeal was on an entirely constructive basis. No allusion whatever was made, to other candi dates who will appear on the repub lican ballot at the QregQO primaries. ,"You will hear Johnson charged with being a radical," fur. Robinson said, "but let me remind yon tha after Hiram Johnson and California got through with flie 5wobblies, hey have never touched thattate again Incidentally," none of the laws which Johnson signed as governor of Cali fornia has ever been reversed by state or , United . States supreme! court." ''-' - s I -. , '" To point out the senator's busi ness ability,, the speaker declared that when Johnson became governor in 1910, the state treasury, showed a deficit of $300,000 and that at the end of seven years, Johnson left bo- hind him when he retired from of fice a surplus of $7,000,000. Mr. Robinson predicted one of the bitterest political fights In the his? tory of the nation when the general elections are held this., fall. . He scored President Wilson for "eating from gold plate with crowned end cracked heads in Europe, while we in America were eating war bread." and -alluded to "Wrlson'3 14 point3, broken' in 15 places." v;;"H:raiu Johnson, when he atacked the lea gue of nations, and later stumped the United States following Wood row Wilson when the president tried to put over the league through appeal to the people,? made Wilson good and sick, and that's one big reason I'm for him," the speaker declared.
