The American Prison System," a book of 262 pages which Is said by peniten tiary officials to be the most com prehensive presentation of the sub ject ever published, has just come from the press. Jesse P. Webb, a "lifer" in the Oregon state penitentiary here. Is tbe author of the remarkable book, which is based on the writer's "In side" experiences behind tbe wills of the Oregon prison under 12 diff erent wardens. Webb supplemented his own per sonal experiences with data and. in formation which be gathered from many of the larger penal institu tions of tbe country. Webb not onl7 wrote the book but, with the help of another con vict, a printer like himself, printed and bound .the entire edition of 2000 copies in the smalt job print ing plant which is maintained nt the penitentiary.
