TUESDAY, APRIL 20, 1920.
THE FIRST THOISAXD
TVe trust that we may be par
doned if we mention here an event
that has Just occurred that gives
The Bulletin thorough satisfaction.
This is the attainment by Its daily
edition of a circulation in excess of
1000 copies o be exact, 1003.
The figure was reached on Satur
day and marks a mile post in the
progress that has been constant
since the paper was established on
December 6. 1916.
To some that inclusion of the
odd three over the thousand may
seem to be carrying the thing to a
fine point. To anyone familiar
with modern circulation account
ing and every advertiser ought to
be familiar with this the figure
Indicates the exactitude with which
records are kept. It is to the
newspaper the came thing that a
bank statement is to a bank.
This feature of our business has
been referred to here in a mention
of the Audit Bureau of Circulations,
and also touched in a series of ad
vertisements. We speak of it
again to emphasize to our adver
tisers that. In buying advertising
in The Bulletin, they are getting
a, circulation that it audited and
guaranteed and greater than that
of any other local advertising med
ium. In view of this increased circula
' tion, as well as because of unnsnal
costs, we are also announcing an
increase in our advertising rates .to
25 cents per column, inch, effective
May lj In paying this our adver
tizers will know just exactly what
they, are paying for, because our
circulation records are open to In
spection by any of them at' any
time.
Kovi .we. are starting after our
second thousand.

WILL BE C ANDIDATE
Robert W. Sawyer, appointed by
Governor Olcott to serve as county
judge until the next general elec
tion, will be a candidate for the re
publican nomination for the Judge
ship at the coming primaries. At
the time of bis appointment Mr.
Sawyer stated that be was not a
candidate for the office, and he
has now consented to the use of
his name only at the repeated re
quest of voters from all sections of
the county.
Deafness.
My ears don't work the way they should; my
hearing isn't extra good; and agents come nust
every' morn to sell some patent audihorn, some
strange contraption, painted blue, to make me hear
as well as you. I shoo said agents from my door
and tell them to come back no more. To buy such
traps I'd be a loon; my deafness' is my greatest
boon. The fellow with a weary tale with fungus
on it, it's so stale, will pass me by before he'll tell
his story when he has to yell. I miss so many tales
of woe, so many chestnuts all men know, so .much
of gossip mean and punk, so much of scandalmon
gers' junk, that I'd -despise the meddling men who
brought my hearing back again. And when I seek
my couch at night I'm like a child, I sleep so tight.
The noise that keeps you all awake my gentle slum
bers cannot break. I do not hear the rounder yell,
I do not hear the milkman's bell ; the chugging mo
tors scorching by can't make your uncle bat an
eye. I'm satisfied, the way I am ; you see me mer
ry as a clam, and if I heard as well as you, no doubt
you'd find me grim and blue.
