Things are going ahead. Something Is doing. Grim deter mination is winning out. The fu ture is assured. It anyone has the slightest doubt of any of these assertions we urge that he read the following from the columns of the Harney County News. Under the banner headline "The New Era's Full Sunlight" and the sub head "Almost With Startling Rapid ity Events Crowd the Stage of Ac tion that Assures Progress in Har ney County," we find this: "On Wednesday morning of this week, and pursuant to a call long contemplated and agreed upon con ference there met in the commercial club rooms a substantial, represent ative Dumber of grimly determined land and water owners for the pur pose of clearly defining and initiating the long sought for movement for progress and development. "A little more than a year has elapsed since a handful of sound and profound thinkers began conferring and concluded that the past contin uous feuds and bitterness of faction against faction must end if we get a quick development, such as is de- R.DpHri$RhuniGS Winter Nights. Winter has unpleasant features, as all honest men admit; when it comes, half frozen creatures are inclined to throw a fit. When big chunks of snow are whizzing on the bosom of the blast, and the blizzard comes a-blizzing, people sigh and say, "Dod Gast!" But for all the beastly weather there is recompense at night, when we camp around to gether by the grate fire, glowing bright. Father sits and reads a story, and he chortles as he rocks; mother's feeling hunkydory, while she darns a pair of socks; and the little sons and daughters play around until they're tired; they have put away the swatters that the summertime required. There are sounds of joyous laughter, there is happiness ga lore, though the tempest shakes the rafter and comes pounding at the door. Oh! this is an hour enchanting, for our compensation meant, and old winter's wildest ranting cannot scare us worth a cent. And he thunders in his1 madness, and we hear his roaring bass, but our hearts are full of glad ness, and we chuckle in his face. HHt'OHl) OK TltANNKKKS. KuriiMutl tiy the Ii-ni)uiU'ii I'ounly Alt.
