CREAMERY'S NEEDS

A another step In the movement
fostered by tho directors of the
farmers' cooperative creamery, and
tho Fimt National liank, to create
increased Interest In the local cream
ery and to make possible a greater
output of its products. E. E. Butler,
P. i. Pedersen, Charle Hipchen,
Jack Arnold. .and H. A. Ward visited
tho alfalfa district last night, ad
dressing u number of ranchers who
gathered at the schoolhouse.
Mr. , Arnold explained that Port
land creameries, in order to secure
Deschutes county trade, at llrst give
bonuses for butter fut, but later de
creased the price paid until It is act
ually 0110 cent below that paid In
Bend, while Mr. Butler, urging sup
port for the local creamery, gave a
brief history of the Industry, and of
tho farmers" organization that is be
hind It. Mr. Slpchen solicited the
cream from Alfalfa ranches, declar
ing that the creamery, with its pre
sent equipment, could double its out
put, but that the demand for butter
in Bend is so large that the creamery
output I Insufficient.
Mr. Ward told of the two ways to
Increuse butter fat production, by
securing the patronage of the farmer
and by Increasing the number and
quality .or cows milked on the
ranches. So rur. he sa4d. orders have
been taken ror 3 4 registered Jerseys
by the First National Tor the farmers
and he emphasized tho Importance!
of high grade stock on the ranch.

What's In A Name.
Naming a plant or flower after a
celebrity U a delicate compliment, and
one Hint no doubt at times adds some
thing to the market value. But there
are exceptions. That. beautiful variety
of the lobelia, for Instanceknown ns
"Emperor William," would perhaps
hold up Its Imperial head a little more
proudly Just now if It had had a more
fortunate christening.
Stray rhiinght on these line may
have been nickering In the mind of a
vendor In a London market-place as a
likely looking buyer, while examining
a box of the old favorite, asked what
variety II was. Without deranging the
muscle or an eyelid the coster (and
he was a "lydy," too) replied:
"Douglas 'Algl Four-uud u-tauoer a
box."
Put It In "THE BLXLET1N'."
