Puller and Frank NIuport left for
the mountains lust Wednesday for
a camping trip. They made the trip
bv wagon, expecting to camp at both
Big Lake and Fish Lake.
Mr. and Mrs. CP. Hosklns were
Redmond visitors last Monday.
Mr. Lynch and 'Miss Myrtle Butler
and Mr. and Mrs. William Wilson
of Redmond, were In Lower Bridge
Wednesday evening for the purpose
of holding a meeting in the interest
of the Boy Scout movement.
Mrs. R- s- Towne entertained the
Lower Bridge ladies Friday after
noon at her homo. After a pleasant
afternoon of music delicious refresh
ments were sorved. It was decided
to organize the P. T. club, which was
in existence before tho war. Mrs.
Joe Howard will entortuin the P. T.s
on Friday afternoou. June 27.
Mrs. Bronson, who has been ill the
past week is greatly Improved.
Misses Naomi and Marion Hoskins
returned Thursday from Portland
where they visited with friends and
attended the rose festival. Naomi has
been attending the university of
Washington the past winter.
Mr. Bruce of Portland, secretary of
the Northwestern Diatomite company
and Mr. Ralph, a mechanic, of the
same city, were at Lower Bridge the
first of the week to install a new en
gine at the mill. The silica mill com
menced work on Friday.
Saint-Saena a Prodigy.
Balnt-Saens commenced to play the
piano almost as soon as he. learned
to walk. He could tell as child the
notes struck by all the clock chime U
the home.

Thereupon Councilman Rhodes of
fered the following resolution pro
posing certain amendments to the
city charter, and providing for the
holding of a special election for sub
mission of the same to the legal
voters of the city, which resolution
was duly seconded, put to a vote,
which resolution together with the
vote thereon is in words and figures
as follows:

Be it resolved by the council of
the City of Bend, Oregon, that the
following proposed amendments to
the charter of said city be and the
same hereby are submitted to the
legal voters at a special city election
to be held as in this resolution pro

ically and efficiently for the year
1920; to pay the city's present
floating indebtedness, and to meet
its fixed interest charge on bond
ed indebtedness, the city council
has made the following estimate of

providing n more or less permanent
"revolving fund," the moneys In

the purpose of making loans to other
funds from time to time, to meet tem
porary deficits therein under tho
direction and order ot the council,
the council of said city Is hereby
authorised and empowered to Issue
and dispose of direct general obliga
tion bonds of tho cltv In denomina
tions or $500 or $1000 puch, to be
numbered from 1 upwards, to be
dated Juno 1, 1919, and to niaturo
In numerical order, $2,000 thoreof
on the 1st day of June. 1927, and
the remaining $3,000 thereof on the
1st day of June, 1928, snld bonds to
be signed by the mayor mid countor
signed by tho rocorder, under tho
corporate seal ot the city, having
seml-unnuiil interest coupons at
tached thereto, bearing the fac
simile eugraved signatures of the
mayor and recorder, whoreby the
city shall be held In substance and
effect to undertake and promise to
pay the hearer of each of said bonds
at maturity thereof the sum numed,
in United Stales Gold Coin ot the
present standard value, with Interest
thereon in like gold coin at the rato
ot five and one-half (5 Vi;4 ) por cent,
per annum, pnyable semi-annually,
the principal and Interest of suld
bonds to be payable at the office of
tho city treasurer In Bend, Oregon,
or ut tho Fiscal agency of the Slate
of Oregon In New York City, at the
option of the holder, suld bonds to bo
known as "City of Bind Municipal
Gold Bonds."
Section 2. The bonds hereby
authorized shall be sold by the coun
cil as In Its Judgment muy be best,
but for not less than par and accrued
Interest, and tho funds derived from
the sale thereof shall ho deposited
with the treasurer of said city to be
kept by him in a fund to bo known
as "The City of Bend Revolving
Fund," and to be by him from time
to time loaned and advanced to other
funds to moot temporary deficits
therein under and pursuant to such
rules und regulations as the council
may from time to time prescribe:
Providud, however, that It shall be
the duty of the city treasurer to see
to the proper application of the funds
derived from the sale of tho afore
said bonds, and the purchaser or
purchasers thureof shall In no event
be responsible or charged with the
proper application of tho funds de
rived from the salo thereof; and pro
vided also, thut the debt limitations
contained In the charter of said city
shall not apply to the bonds hereby
authorized.
Section 3. The council shall each
year at the time of making the an
nual tax levy for city purposes. In
clude In such Jevy a Bum sufficient
to pay Interest'due on tho outstand
ing bonds of this Issue and to re
tire tho principal thereof as It ma
tures. Resolved further, that this res
