BEND NEEDS BIG
CLEAN-UP WEEK
MANY SPOTS ABOUT
UNSIGHTLY.
Vacant Lot Should Bo Cleaned of
Rubbish Homo Owners in
City Should Sot Einniplo
For Others.
Ask youraolvoa a few questions:
Is Bond as bright, clean and
healthy looking town as it was a
yea'r ago today?
Are its vacant lots cleared of litter
and refuse?
Are its alleys cluttered up with
all Borts of rubbish?
Are its yards the yards of home
owners clean?
Are there many buildings, unused
and unoccupied, that might as well
be torn down?
To the person about town Bend
does not look as bright or clean as
it did a year or two years ago. What
Bond needs, and badly too, Is a week
or a month of clean up, It will soon
be summer. Tlioro will be hundreds
of tourists on tho Puclllo const this
year. Bond will draw n largo part of
tho north and south tourlBl t ru tile
in 1919. If Bend ts not cleaned up
In tho next month tho city Is certain
to create an unfavorable Impression.
Kvory lot owner, every home
owner, every business man In tho city
can well afford for the reputation
of ho city to dig In for tho next two
or throo weeks and clean up. Burn
inllnmnlile rubbish. Tenr down tho
buildings which liavo no use, The
city will do its part to clenn up Its
highways.
It will be no great effort to do thU.
It you are a home owner Bet the
example now. Go from one end of
your premises to the other and clean,
clean, clean. Then your neighbor
will take the tip whether ho owns his
home or not.
Make Bend the cleanest city In
Central Oregon.
When summer comes It will carry
with it more sickness than a city
otherwise . favorable for' healthful
conditions should have unless the
city is cleaned up. You will be doing
your part to reduce the Illness during
summer. Purchase a galvanized iron
garbage can. Keep the cover on. Have
ft receptacle for inflaniable material
and burn It occasionally, Don't let
tho wlud carry It ubout town.
Muku Bend a cllyt!uit tourists will
remember us a clean brlnlit and pros
perous city.
