PAYING FOR WHAT YOU ORDER.
i When Germany proposed an armls
. tiee in the weeks preceding the 11th
of last November, the American
Jieople, as one man, insisted that the
only terms . which should be given
were unconditional? surrender. Thejr
knew what the war had cost and
what its continuation would cost in
money, and in lives.
' ' Their demand that the war go on
unless Germany surrender uncondi
tionally had only , one meaning aud
that was that, knowing the price,
they we're willing to pay.
;- Had the war gone on the Ameri
can people would have been ready
to subscribe to a Liberty loan. Their
willingness to pay would have been
translated -into actual paying by the
purchase of more bonds. There
would have been no question about
raising the necessary funds. There
can be no question today, although
the fighting is over.
Today the money Is needed to pay
for what the people demanded last
October and November. Their order
to Uncle Sam was to make all neces
sary preparation for the complete
crushing of the enemy. Uncle Sam
got ready. The enemy saw what was
coming and he cracked.
Now let's pay for what we ordered.
Buy Victory bonds.
