"THE FIGHTING RACE."
Our genial friend, Hugh O'Kane,
charges us with suppressing news of.
the Irish, and what is as equally had,
it not worse, of giving space to the
British anti-Irish (propaganda. Such
he asserts were bur reports of the
tals given here fy Colonel Leader
and Colonel Pringle at the . time of
their recent visitp.
We are not cohscious of assisting
in any British propaganda. We have
no brief for Great Britian in her
treatment of Ireland, and we have
admiration for tle work of the Irish
troops who servefl in the .great war.
What they did kas in accord with
the best fighting traditions of the
race as describedjin the famous poem
of Joseph I. C. f lark, and were the
'poem to be re-written today it would
undoubtedly contain a stanza com
memorating their sacrTBces at Galli
poll, on the Flankers front and wher
ever the British navy did duty on the
high seas. j
For those whj are not familiar
with the poem wt reprint it here as
a tribute to the fighting Irishman In
whatever war he inay serve:
"Rad out the nhmes," and Burke

And Kelly droopel his head,

"Well here's to t! 9 Maine, and I'm
sorry for Spa in,"
Said Kelly and Bjrke and Shea.
"Wherever there' 1 Kellys, there's
trouble," said Burke.
"Wherever fightin ;'s the game,

work," .
