Although congress adjourned with out bringing to a vote the legislation proposed by Secretary Lane for the appropriation of $100,000,000 to be used for the reclamation of arid, swamp and cut-over lands. It is be lieved that -whenever congress re assembles it will pass the bill. The measure was reported favorably In both houses and would undoubtedly have become a law had it not been for the jam of other business and the filibuster carried on by certain senators in the lust few days of the session. Central Oregon Is vitally interested In the passage of the measure and -will be glad to know that Secretary Lane will have the bill reintroduced when congress meets again and pushed through as soon as possible. In the meantime. Mr. Lane is con tinuing the preliminary investiga tions as far as the limited funds at his disposal will warrant. These in clude the geological study of the Benham Falls reservoir site, which we may expect to see begun in the near future. i -i We wonder if the quiet state of Ireland, suggested by the lack of news from that part of the world, does not indicate something extra In the way of censorship rather than real peace.
