Cook are now In the state on a tour which win take them from one end to the other. They will be heard in Bend on the evening of Friday, January 31. They appear in the state under the auspices of the State Council of Defense. The party is accompanied by two enlisted men, E. W. Peet and W. K. L, Lorimer. They will go from here to Redmond. The icsult u "JACK AND THE JEANSTALK" AT THE MOVIES Liberty Theatre. Vivian Martin, the winsome star, is known to the world not only as a great actress, but what is perhaps a more unique distinction as a famous cook. Miss Martin is the author of the "Vivian Martin Cooking Chatter," which was circulated throughout the great newspapers of this country by a syndicate some mouths ago. Her latest Paramount photoplay Is "The Sunset Trail," a thrilling drama by Alice Mclver, prepared for the screen by Beulah Marie Dix. The story has to do with Bess Aiken, who lives with her father and mother high in the California mountains. The mother, an ex-actress, tires of her humdrum existence and leaves with a new admirer, Treloar, whose neph ew Bess has met also. Later when her mother Invites Bess to visit her, she meets the young nephew, Kirke, again. Soon after that, Camilla, the mother, is caught in a compromising position by her husband and Bess makes the sacrifice of her own reputation to save her mother. How matters are eventually read justed is brought about in a most un usual, and unexpected manner. The production, which abounds in excep tionally beautiful photography, was made under the direction of George Melford. It is to bo shown on Thurs day and Friday, at the Liberty The atre. The three babies who play such important parts in Margaret Mayo's farce, "Baby Mine," In which Madge Kennedy makes her debut as a screen star for Goldwyn, caused Hugo Bal- lln, who directed the picture, no small trouble. The three babies are presented sin gly, as twins, and finally as triplets to an admiring but deceived father. The babies were requisitioned from the neighborhood of the Goldwyn Btudios at Fort Lee, New Jersey. Their mothers had no difficulty 1n identifying them, but all babies look alike to Mr. Ballin, and he found him self getting the lot all mixed up. Finally he solved the situation by marking the babies with a different colored shawl for each. These shawls were not called for In Miss Mayo's manuscript, but they played a useful part In the photographing of the pro duction. Grand Theatre. Environments and the evils to which 111 surroundings lead one, form the theme of the new drama which R. A. Walsh has made for William Fox with Miriam Cooper In the lead ing role. "The Innocent Sinner" is the story of a young girl who Is led from the simple life of the country Into the evil ways of a thriving com munity. The picture will be shown at the Grand Theatre Thursday and Friday. The girl, Mary Ellen (Miss Cooper) Is brought to the city by a man's un fulfilled promise to marry her. When tho man Is murderod, she floes from the house to which he has taken her and attempts to make an honest liv ing.
