Working Day and Night
Concentrated study seems to be the
rule at the Harvard electrical school,
which one of the Bend boys, John
Steidl, is now attending. He was re
cently transferred from Mare Island,
where he was studying -to become a
naval radio electrician. In a recent
letter to his parents, Mr. Steidl says:
"I started in to school today and
they certainly have got some school
here. I am going to classes In Pierce
ball, which is one of Harvard's reg
ular class halls. There are 150 in
my class and about 3500 in all at
tending here. We go to school at 8
o'clock in the morning and have
theory the first period until 10:30,
then have receiving and sending from
then until 12:15. At 1:30 we begin
the afternoon routine the same way.
I will be able to study general elec
tricity as well as learn to be an op
erator here.
"We go to night school three times
a week and have to study about twice
as many hours here as they do at
Mare Island in the electrical school,
but we finish the course about twice
as fast. The course here is supposed
to be from four to five months, then
I will come out either a .second or
third class radio operator.
"I went over to Boston last night
to hear Harry Lauder sing. We were
all given- complimentary tickets to
the performance. The people around
here treat us like kings, and com
pared with our reception in San Fran
cisco it's like'Paradise.
"The weather here is quite cold
and some of the fellows are skating
on the Charles river, which is frozen
over."

is appearing in "Patsy." This pic
ture gives Miss Caprice a rare oppor
tunity to charm her thousands of ad
mirers. It gives her natural m'.s
chlevousness full play and her capti
vating smile a chance to drive its
happy message home. In addition
June gets into the liveliest lot of
adventures ever encountered by a lit
tle girl in her 'teens. The incident
most enjoyed by the rompinig little
star was when she upset a small town
bully In a brook. This young man
tries to annoy June and her little
playmates while they are wading.
June lures him to the edge of the
stream and sneaking behind him she
shoves him overboard.

fellow splash into the water are far
