With tho changing of the business of the Dennett Grocery store to a cash busts, the purchase of the store. Including tho taking over of the lease by A. K. Otis, of Tho Dalles, was an nounced this morning. The store is now in charge of Earl A. Koss. who came hore a few days ago from Hood Itlver. ll la understood that the J. C. Penney Interests are behind the pur chaae, and that the store rooms in the O'Kano building may later be used to house one of the chain of Penney stores throughout the United States. On this point, however, Mr. Robs was unablo to give definite information when interviewed today. Louis Hcnnelt, former proprietor of tho store, stated this morning that ho would remain in business in Bend, but could not state his exact loca tion. Ha is remaining at the store for a few days taking care of a few details incident to the sale of the stock. RAISES BIG BEETS. They were raised by E. Reed at his ranch in Homestead Gardens, two miles southeast of town. In speak ing of tho beets Mrs. Heed points out that beets from this section have been found to have an unusually high sugar content and urges that an effort be made to obtain a beet sugar factory here.
