These are to be charged ac cording to lories. There will also be a parcel post tax according to weight. All of these changes come under the new revenue law passed recently by Congress. Several local trainmen are evinc ing interest in a recent bulletin sent from railroads headquarters announc- i,,g "e"inss n railroads In Russia due to the reorganization of the lines there. According to the communica tion it has been decided to recruit the necessary forces from American roads. Kacli position will include a military title and a salary no less than the one received at present. The period of service will probably be only as long as the duration of the war. The S. P. & S. company has been called upon to supply one super intendent, one chief dispatcher, one trainmaster, one traveling engineer, two train dispatchers, one line re pairor, one boiler foreman and one master mechanic. It is very prob able that several men from tho Bend railway yards will make application. FOREST FIRES ARE PUT UNDER CONTROL Although smoke has continued to hang heavy over this vicinity, forest fires have not brought about any ser ious results. The one at Fox Butte ia now under control.
