pany's equipment hus never suffered
a single breakdown. This was the
unuauul fuel discovered today by
Manager T. H. Foley, after running
through tho records of tho company.

Mr. Foley knocked on some wood
when ho announced tho remarkable
record of tho local public aervlco cor
porutlou. Only twice lias the plant ceased
operation only for a few minutes,

ery nus stopped for 20 minutes to
uvold damage by anchor Ice, and once
In August, when the power was
turned off during a heavy electrical
I storm to avoid damage threatened by
an execanive electrical load.
One feature which has contributed
to the excellent service given by the
coinpuny In the closed circle trans
mission system used here. The power
wires from the plant make a com
plete circle, to that If a wire is broken
ut any point, the electricity will feed
up to tho break from both aides. The
central location of the plant, Mr.
Foley considers as especially advan
tageous, when compared to conditions
prevailing In many other chics In
Oregon.
AEROPLANE CORPS IS
OPEN FOR RECRUITING
Word was received today from the
genoral recruiting station at Portland
by Corporal Harvey to the effect that
the aviation section of the signal
corps Is now open for enlistments.
Training in flying la to be given only
to commissioned officers but the new
mon wil be Instructed In the con
struction and repairing of aeroplanes.
After enlistment at Vancouver Bar
racks all accepted applicants wlll .be
sent 10 Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

No school will be held this year In
District 1 1 In the neighborhood of
Brothers. The reason for this Is the
fact that all the pupils have either
come to Bend or have moved out of
the country. The teacher elected by
the school board has resigned.

girl who they claim ran away to get
married. It Is thought that the boy
is working in one of the mills near

RESTAURANT REOPENS.
After remaining closed three weeks
on account of lack of kitchen help,
the Cozey Hotel restaurant yesterday
reopened with a complete new staff
of assistants. Mrs. Nettie Stevenson,
proprietor of the hotel, will herself
have charge of the cooking.
