GROCERIES OlrS! - Q WORLD IRAOV PICTURE M A O B ALICE BRADY Darkest Russia (Nrrrf by TRAVERS VALE At the Liberty, Saturday night only. AT THE MOVIES Grand Theatre"; There have been a number of won derful pictures recently depicting the war conditions as they are in 'Eur ope, but "The Fall of a Nation." the eight reel picture to be shown at the Grand Theatre Monday and Tues day shows possible conditions If our country were invaded. Scenes that are familiar to many will be shown. The troops taking part in this wonderful spectacle is composed of our own '"Sammies." members of the California batteries that served on the border during the Mexican trouble. No picture has ever done more to urge national defense than this pic ture. It is said that after showing the picture in some of the larger cities there was a noticeable increase in the Tecruhing. The music for "The Fall of a Na tion" was composed by Victor Her bert, and has done much to interpret the scenes of the picture. Harold Sanford, who conducted "The Fall of a Nation," says: "Is Richard Strauss had composed this score and labelled it a 'tone poem,' all out music critics would be studying it, analyzing its structure, commenting on the unique tonal quality obtained by peculiar combina tions of instruments and admiring its emotional effectiveness." Saturday and at the Sunday mat inee. Baby. Marie Osburn, the little child actress is leading, in "Sunshine and Gold." This leading part is not taken by a "Grown-up person acting 1 like a lady," but by a little girl whose flowing hair truly truly and sunny disposition merit the name of "Sun shine and Gold." The Liberty Theatre. Mary PIckford's new photoplay, "A Romance of the Redwoods," staged under the direction of Cecil B. DeMille for Artcraft pictures, pre sents a striking example of why the greatest number of motion picture producers operate in California. The wonderful sunlight together with the wide variety of scenery obtainable within short- distances from the studio can only be secured In this part of the country. The gigantic redwoods, together with the mountain forest scenes and the immense rolling plains of the west display somo of the most won derful natural settings erer caught by the camera and offer a striking background for the romantic story with its charming situations of par ticular heart appeal. The picture will make its performance at the Lib erty Theatre at the Sunday matinee and night and Monday. The most timely feature picture Issued In a long time is "Darkest Russia" which has been issued by the World Film Corporation. This master production shows the pre- revolutfon conditions In Russia with the most startling fidelity. The lib erty-loving groups are shown fight ing lor their freedom and the old regime police are seen combatting these forces. Alice Brady Is the star In this splendid offering and she is seen In one of the most effective of the many roles which she has assumed. Miss Brady appears as a young Russian musician who at a crucial moment and at a big assemblage refuses to play "God Save the Czar." As a re sult of this refusal she Is separated from her sweetheart and Is sent to Siberia. There she 'becomes an angel of mercy to the afflicted. Finally, under the most dramatic circumstan ces, she Is reunited to her lovor. The story is replete with excitement and Interesting Incidents. It has been staged on a very lavish scale and Is easily one of the most notablo offer ings ever issued -on a program. See "Darkest Russia" at the Lib erty Theatre on Saturday night, and be splendidly entertained. lADVffiTKMNrS YOU GET WHAT V YOU WANT WHEN A YOUASKFORlTif WANTED pURXITl'nK WANTED Wu will pay best cash price (or mod fur niture and household goods.
