Thai la why Its attractions are so extraordinarily popular and why the big river is becoming o more and more ImporUint asset drawing tourists to this territory, and why It Is making Bond more and mora a center tor automobilo and tourist travel. . There IsnH a prettier mountain rii en (low In the world than Crane Prairie, where hundreds of acres of natural fields are bordered by (ho forests and fringed by the snow mountains, while tho rives divides 1 itself into various brunches whoso clear cold water meandors between grassy banks, delightful to camp I upon and perfoct to f'.sh from. ;hmI RimmI to Prairie. I A good road extends from Bend to ' the Pralrio and tho fifty-odd miles can be negotiated In a short after noon's drive, leaving plenty of lee way for an evening of fishing. Then, following the river down stream there are countless attractive I places. They are worth visiting olth ' er for the fisherman or simply the ; lover of out-of-doors who Is content to enjoy the beauties of nature with out using either a rod or a shotgun. And In the hunting season, of course, there is good duck shooting at many points along the river, and parties can leave Bend In the morning and be back at night and have all the sport . they want. Just as fishermen can do now. Automobile roads follow tho Des chutes pretty closely, and it is pos sible to get into the river at almost any point of its 125 miles of wind ing above Bend. Benham Kails Popular. Perhaps the most-visited and most popular single point along the river above Bend is Benham Falls. The Deschutes drops there in a white watered cataract, booming down through a narrow, rock-walled cleft, with great pine trees rising on cither hand. Below the falls themselves, the water flows in a aeries of cascades for half a mile or more, skirting the edge of the lava beds which cover several square miles, extending west erly from Lava Butte. There are other attractive falls and many delightful places to fish and to plunic, following down from Lava Island .to Dutch John's bridge. Along this lower stretch of the river the big mills now conduct tholr camps and in addition to the natural attrac- Ore. j tions there is much of interest to be seen in the modern logging opera tions. I In short, there are scores of dc ! iightful. outings that can be enjoyed all along the Deschutes, and all of them are made accessible through' the ! automobile. A gallon of gasoline, or a couple of, gallons at most, will i take the Bend resident or the Bend I visitor to all sorts of pleasant places in which to fish, to hunt, to picnic ' or camp. I From the automobilists' standpoint another advantage of Bend is that I hore are to be found splendidly equip jped garages and repair facilities of ! all sorts. The local "trouble chas lers? can fix all sorts of auto ailments. and visitors' cars are sure of first class treatment. Also, the local garage men now handle about all the first class cars on the market, and Sny resident of Bend can now purchase a new car here, or get new parts. Just as well and, in fact, better, than if he tries to deal with an outside point. And lastly. Bend's fine modern ho tels offer accommodations which meet the requirements of the most fastidious traveller. Inquiries to any of them, or to local garages, or the Commercial club, will bring prompt and complete information regarding auto trips that can be taken from here, rates, fishing, transportation and anything else of interest to the prospective visitor. And The Bul letin will gladly communicate with anyone who wants data about such matters. Hop along and dance at the Hippo drome Tuesday night it's the big harvest ball. Adv. BAPTIST REVIVAL.
