Washington and Oregon lumbermen
can supply all the airplane spruce
the Allies will need. The two north
western states contain great bodies of
spruce, tho mills aro large enough to
handle any order, and railroads are
capable of carrying Immense quant!
ties of the spruce to airplane factories
In the east.
This today Is the opinion of lead
ing lumber manufacturers. They are
now, preparing to cut 117,000,000
feet of spruco which will be needed
for airplane construction In tho next
18 months. As only about 18 per
cent of a log Is suitable for airplane
stock., over 600,000,000 feet of lum
ber must be cut.
Spruce manufacturers now are or
ganized to handle government orders.
