The graduates of this department,
according to J. Alton Thompson,
county school superintendent, are
qualified to teach for the coming
year. If successful their first year
they may be again recommended by
the county superintendent tor an ad
ditional year of teaching before they
will be required to take the exam
ination for state certificate. Those
who hold life certificates and grad
uates of the state normal school do
not have to take examination.

"have already secured schools for the
coming year. Marie Brosterhous
wil lteach music and act as supply
teaoher in the Bend city schools. I
Gertrude Reynolds will have charge
of the lower grades In Metollus.

Examinations for those whose cer
tificates have expired will be held
In the Bend high school auditorium,
June 27, 28, 29 and 30, for Deschutes
county teachers. An average of 75
will be required in 11 subjects for
the one year certificates, an average
of 85 in IS subjects for the five year
permit, and an average of 85 in 24
subjects will be required for life
certificates. ' All grades which have
previously been passed with a grade
of 90 per cent ' heed not be taken
again, according to Mr. Thompson.
The examination schedule has been
announced as follows:
"Wednesdayr-forenoon, u. S. his
tory, penmanship, drawing, music;
afternoon, physiology, reading, man
ual training; composition, domestic
science, methods in reading, course
of study for drawing, methods in
arithmetic.
Thursday" forenoon, arithmetic,
history of education, psychology,
methods in geography, mechanical
drawing, domestic art, course of
study for domestic art; afternoon,
grammar, geography, stenography,
American literature', physics, type
writing, methods in language, thesis j
lor primary certificate.
Friday forenoon, theory and prac
tice, orthography, ' physical geogra
phy, English literature, chemistry,
physical culture;- afternoon, school
law,, geology, algebra, civil govern
ment. Saturday forenoon, geometry, bot
any; afternoon, general history,
bookkeeping.
BEST IS INSPECTOR
' The Deschutes county court In ses
sion this morning appointed Woody
Best, a stockman of Harney, inspec
tor for the county to act until a per
manent inspector is appointed by the
governor. - ,
By an Oregon law of 1915, the
power of recommending stock in
spectors for appointment by the gov
ernor is vested In the Oregon State
Horse and Cattle Association. Mr.
Best will act until some action is

The court is going over the Bend
' Tumalo road this afternoon with
George S. Young, county surveyor.
Several changes may be made, elim
inating dangerous, turns and stretches
of road where- the view ahead is ob-
sirucieu.
