THE SGML OF KURA SAN 't (LASKY) Attend Theatre, Wednesday night, April 18, only. At the Movies Grand Theatre. "Hell Morgan's Girl", will be fea tured tonight at the Grand Theatre. The play already has attracted con siderable local attention. Dorothy Phillips, the versatile young actress, appears in the leading role of the -daughter of a" resort keeper on the jBarbary Coast, and her fidelity, de spite her training to her word. The play is exceptionally vivid, has some 'wonderful scenes of the San Fran cisco tire and earthquake and a very strong and interesting plot through out. The play will be shown tonight and tomorrow night. Bend Theatre. War on the firing line in Europe attracted a packed house at the Bend Theatre last night. . The pictures are all that they were heralded to be. The field covered by the feature is ex tensive and gives one a comprehen sive Idea of the vastness of the "European war at close range. They "will be shown again tonight. The brilliant Japanese actor. Sea sue Hayakawa. supported by Myrtle Stedman, will be seen tomorrow night only . at the Bend Theatre, in the Xasky production, "The Soul of Kura 3an." The story has to do with the ad ventures and tribulations of two poor Japanese lovers. They are not able to marry, so decide to commit ""shindu," which is dquble suicide, but when Hayakawa is offered a po sition in America they decide to wait until he has acquired enough money to return for his bride. , How Kora-San is wronged by" an .American artist, and how her sweet 'heart revenges himself on the artist's intended bride, goes to make a story '-swift in its action, unusual in its 'theme and startling in its originality. GIRLS PREPARING FOR WAR SERVICE 500 Live Under Rigid Army Disci plineRed Cross Nurses and Doctors in Charge. . (By United Press to the Bend Bulletin) WASHINGTON, D. C, April 16. With girl rookies from 25 states pres ent in khaki, the annual spring en campment of the National Service 'School the women's Plattsburg opened here yesterday. The girls are equipping themselves for war service. More than 500 young women ans wered the roll call as Mrs. Hugh L. Scott, and other leaders of Wash ington society reviewed prospective """rankers" who will serve their coun try. . --. Over half the regiment are girls 'from out of town; the Pacific states, the south aid the middle west being well represented. The girls will Hve under rigid army discipline, sleep in army tents and for 20 days "taste the luck o' the army." Dally instruction In "the arts and crafts of war" will be given by army officers, and doctors and nurses of the army Red Cross. All girls are warned against bring ing any jewelry or other valuables into the camp. The official outfit Is: 1 khaki coat and skirt, 1 army flannel blouse, field hat, blue necktie, blue hat chord, laced tan boots. Personal be longings are limited to one suitcase and a handbag. The encampment, which Is official ly endorsed by President Wilson and the army, has attracted countrywide attention, as has the Plattsburg camp for men. Students who attended either the National Service encampment last year, the second school in San Fran cisco, the third at Lake Geneva, Wis., or the fourth at Naragansett Pier, R. I., are eligible for the post-grad- uate companies, which will take up diet, camp cpokery and like work.
