Possibly the people of Bend and the farmers in the surrounding coun try are not aware of the fact that they are being paid a marked com pliment, in fact, two compliments. In the general self esteem such little .things are apt to go unnoticed so that we fell it a duty to call atten tion to them. , A demonstration car sent out by the Oregon Agricultural College and the Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation Company is now touring Eastern Oregon. Differing from the arrangements made for the recent wool car, the home economics car is to come to Bend. This is compliment number one. It is recognized that this community should be favored with a visit from the experts who are in charge of the work, and we should feel duly grateful. Compliment number two is found in the tact that the car will be here only 12 hours, arriving at 7:35 Wed nesday evening, it will depart on Thursday morning at 7:25. True, this is only a short stay, amounting for practical purposes to only a few hours Wednesday - night, but there lies the compliment.. The purpose of the visit is .to give instruction, but where instruction is not needed, why waste time? This community is re garded as one where but two or three hours are needed to tell what is not known here already about chicken raising, canning, gardening and the other subjects dealt with on the trip. At Redmond, on the contrary, dense Ignorance prevails, and the car will remain all day Thursday. Seriously, Is not Bend entitled to better treatment? If the car is to' do any good why not have it here at least some part of the day when it can be visited and its object fulfilled. Our farmers live too far away to make an evening visit possible. Give them a real opportunity. They are as much entitled to it as those around Redmond. In view of the actions of the Journal and some of its friends we suggest that they first answer the question as .to why they have lied. Why not intern Harry Lane along with the other Germans? Frldya at 1:13 was an unlucky time for the Kaiser. KANSAS FILM CENSORS ARE NOW ALL WOMEN The ethical dentists, according to their own ac knowledgement through eminent writers In their Dental Journals, say: "While we ethical Dentists create a demand for dentistry, we prohibit the pub lie from receiving our services. About all the Eth ical dentists have done to advance dentistry is to in crease our fees scarcely anything else. True, we have introduced new appliances for the practice of dentistry, and almost always the strongest argu ment for so doing Is that we can demand larger fees get more money from our patient. How can we ridicule the dentist who advertises reasonable prices and does good work when the Ethical Dentists edu cate the public to the need of dental work and then deny ft to them with prohibitive prices. Many a man who wants only value received will not patron ize the Ethical Dentist because of their exorbitant prices when they can go to dentists from our same colleges with worlds of experience and get the use of the most modern appliances and most skillful workmen and from fair men who want only legiti mate prices for their work. The Ethical Dentists write and read their paper and works, suggesting how we can raise our fees, telling what we are get ting for an operation, and complain because we can not get more, but our advertising dentist is doing most of the up-to-date work for the thinking public because they ere working hard to prove that the best dentistry can be and is done at reasonable prices." 1 The King Bee Dentists say that any ethical den tist who puts all his energy and endeavor to squeez ing the most money he can from his patients Is un worthy of his profession. We are told by the highest medical authority that Bad Teeth Mean Sickness. Disease and Death (By United Press to the Bend Bulletin) TOPEKA, Kan., . April 7. The new Kansas film censorship board Is made up entirely of women. In the personnel of the new board Gov ernor Capper has retained but one member of the old board, Miss Carrie Simpson, of Paola, and added two new members. . They are Mrs. J. M. Miller, of Council Grove, and Mrs. E. L. Shortt, of Kansas City. Of the 100 requests for appointments less than a dozen were from men. According to gossip, the adminis tration of tho board is to be anything but smooth if the censorship follows the line of the old board. The new censorship law, besides raising the salary of the chairman to $1800 and the other two members to 11500, permits the film compan ies to make appeals to the courts In stead of the old appeal board com posed of the' governor, the attorney general and the secretary of state.
