Oovor nor Whitman, of New York, Is de termined thut before tho close of thla yeur boxing will bo kicked com pletely out of New York. Ills de termination ho declured In recent In formal dlscuHHlous, la unalterable. Ha la opposed to the game from ev ery ungle. The unfavorable publicity the gumo has received In this city, the unfavorable and unsavory bouta thut have been pulled off from time to time, Fred Wenck's unfortunato ex perience with the hot end of that 100 check and several other things, huvo soured Whitman completely. Wenck's conduct In office was very bud and It waa the atraw that broke the governor's back. Ho announced thut Wcnck would bo removed from office and then let It be known In an unofflclul wuy that no one would be appointed to replace the deposed chairman of the boxing commlHslon. Wenck (lid several things while in office thut looked bud, among them being his feat of borrowing 1400 from tho manager of a fighter, no small stunt. He repuld the money, but Franklin I). Lord, the governor's representative who hcurd tho evl denco In charges brought by Harry I'ollok. John White and others, held thut Wenck acted in disrespect to the dignity of hla office in asking for the loun. As If thi were not enough. Wcnck permitted his office to be used on more limn one occasion as headquar ters for vlsillng mnnugers of boxers who were lo uppeur in New York rings. Not only did he do thut, but ho even recommended "a huHtllng young manager of a fight club" lo a former ninnuger of Fred Fulton, who OHkcd regarding the stability of clubs. Ho also endorsed a note for $3000 to help this manager stage a match. Theso things were bad, they net tled the governor, and ho was firmly determined to end tho game for all time when the evidence waa all In. Nothing can atop it In Now York. The Frawley bill la doomed and there la little wonder. The way promot era and munagers. not to speak of tho boxers, have treated their liber ties Is enough to shamo anything Into hiding. And In passing, It Is enough to provoke a glgglo to witness tho fuct that In getting revenge on Wenck, for retiming a license to conduct bouts In MadiBon Square Garden, Harry I'ollok gave a porfect imper sonation of the man who cut off hla 11 oo to spito his face.
