SENATOR SCOFFS AT
SCIENTIFIC FARMERS
(Br United Preai to The Dailr Bulletin)
WASHINGTON, D. C, Feb. 21.
Senator Sherman, of Illinois, born
and raised on a farm, does not think
much of the government experts. He
said so during discussion of the agri
culture appropriation bill.
"These alleged scientific farmers
know more about ward politics than
they do about farming," said Sher
man. "If they attempted to put into
practice their scientific farming
stunts they would starve to death in
12 months. I'll bet ninety per cent
of them don't know hard cider from
creek water. They would know a
Jersey cow only if she introduced
herself,"
Grand Theatre. The Pathe Film Co.
is noted for its wonderful pw-turlza-tion
of films in artistic colors and
this film is one of the best that has
yet been produced.
Tomorrow afternoon, the children
of Bend will have a feast for thoir
eyes when "Snow White and the Sev
en Dwarfs," will be presented at two
matinee performances, the first at
2:30 p. m. and the second at 3:4 j
p. m. This film is a dramatization
of one of Grimm's best known fairy
tales and the scenes are laid in na
ture's beauty spots of Northern Ohio,
in which 300 children participate.
For the title role In the new pic
ture play version of Grimm's fairy
tale, "Snow White," Aimee Erlicn
was selected, for her grace, her
beauty and her dancing ability. Al
though still a little girl, she had sev
eral years of experience in star:-)
work, having played the Queen, in
Little Nemo," and other leadl'iy
parts in Klaw & Erllnger s produc
tions. Her resemblance to Marguar-
lte Clark Is marked, and several
months ago she won the first prize
as the child, most, like the other fam
ous actress In appearance.
Thursday evening Mary Anderson
and William Duncan appear in "The
Last Man," a story which has for Its
setting the Philippines. The story
is even as dramatic as "God's Coun
try," in which these characters ap
peared at the Dream Theatre several
months ago.
In the madness of a native upris
ing- in the Philippines he meets the
woman who was his wife and the
man who wrecked his home. Army
men, both of them and the women,
beautiful, but like another Helen of
Old. Between them lies the hate and
passion of the unpaid debt of honor.
Like a tower of strength he with
stands the storm from without, a
bulwark and shelter for those who
wronged him. And with the passing
of the storm he exacts from them a
penalty worse than death plants In
their hearts the embers of remorse
that shall smoulder always, searing
their souls for all time.
A wonderful picture is "The Last
Man"; big, vital, pulsing with the
primitive passions of the race; a pic
ture such as comes but seldom and
endures.
