A New Yoek Lady becomes Aunt
to A Bamsn Princess. A Paris lets
lor of Maroh 28tb, to. the New York
Times, contains tbe following iuterest
ing bit of gossip :
Of course you know that the Prin
cess llelen, third daughter of Queen
Victoria, is soon to espouse the Gorm
an Prince Christian, of Augustenburg;
but borbaps you do not know that this
marriage will malie n Princess of tho
royal family of England a niece to a
lady in New York, whoso maiden
name was Lee. Tug relationship is
very 'easily explained. Some years
ago seven or eight, if my memory.
nerves me correctly there resided in
Puris a New Yo.rk family of the name
of Leo, one of the daughters of which
was married in tbe United Stales
Minister's (Judge Mason's) bouse, to
Baron Wachtor, Ministor of Wurtem
tourg. This lady's sister," so'tno years
subsequently, mot Prince Froderio,
brother of tho reigning Duke of Aug.
ustonburg-Glucksburg, who fell des
fierately in love with her. The prince
y swain of tbe young Manhaitanese
was not precisely the beau ideal one is
accustomed to encounter in novels, and
was, in sobor fact, an antiquated Cel
adon, or past Bixty, and a widower at
that, his first wife, who belonged to
the royal family of Denmark, having
died in-1858. The Prince was, bow
over, so deeply enamored of Miss Lee
that he renounced all pretentions to
the Crown,(a necessary preliminary
to contracting what even the mostim
Bignfibant " soverign families" of Eu
rope regard as a mesalliance,') and tho
marriage was duly solemnized, as be
fore, at the Legation of the United
States. Immediately afterward, the
happy pair sotoutfor the East on tboir
. wedding tour ; but the fatigues of tbe
journey wore too great for the bride
groomof sixty, and upon arriving at
Beyrut, Syria, he quiotly gavo up the
ghost, whereupon his bereaved widow,
the Princess, returned to Paris, and
took up her residence with her sister,
the. Baroness Wachter. , And this is
how a New York lady became aunt to
tbe Princess Helen of Great Britain.
My Courtship. When I was six
teen, I fell id love. -1 There is nothing
remarkable in that, for roost all young
men of the above ago do the same
tbing. Butwhatl am going to" tell
you is, how ray courtship terminated.
It wasata party IsawSallieB ,
who was one of the sweetest girls in'
Ticktowh'J' andi Itell you, she looked
sweet in her white muejin balkdress,
with ber hair falling loosely over her
shoulders. I got an introduction,
danced with ber, once,' twice,: thrice,
and t was just the happiest man in all
Ticktown. ' Well, at last -tho party
broke up; but I bad an invitation to
call on-Miss B . 'That was all I
wanted; and I did'ht sleep mnch before
Supdoy , evening for that was the
time I'd fixed to call. I called, saw
r Miss bailie to church saw her homej
and whon-.I left .1 had a prossine; in
vitation to call again, and I did not
jorgetit Tassupe you. , At the end of
a month I was completely gone. At
last, I resolved to," pop the quostion,"
and fixed on my next visit for tho timo,
studied " Courtship Madb Easy," thon
bughly, and concluded I was ready for
the task. The time arrived. Here I
was; sitting by tbe side of my bolovcd,
with i my arm around ber1 waist I .1
.took hor hand in mino, and soovod
np my courage to say, " Dear Sallie,
do you lov me?". She made no an
swer ; but her( eyes were, cast down,
and. I bopod. Yes, I was certain she
loved me. I put both my arms around
bef. nock, and pressed' one, two, three
kisses on ber rosy lips. She did not
resist, bat raised her hend, and said !
"You're as bad as Sam Simmons I"
