Tne 13 kauty or a Blush. (soothe
rxnn in corapanywilh 'a mother and
Lor daughter, when tho latter, being
reproved for. some fault, blushed and
fourst into tears. IIu said': "How
beautiful your reproach has made
your daughter J The crimson hue and
those silvury tears become her better
than any ornaments of uold or pearls.
Those may bj bung on tho neck of any
woman; but thosa aro never seen dim
connected with moral purity. A lull
roso bospriokled vvithho purest dew
is not 80 beautiful as this child, blush
ing bonoath her parent's displeasure,
and shedding tears of sorrow ut bcr
fault A blush if tho sign which nn.
tare hangs out to show where chastity
and honor dwell.
A Model State. The State of Iowa
which. sent some seventy thousand
troops into the field exceeding its
quota by noarly six thousand instead
of being overrun and borne down with
obligations, has a Siuto debt of a little
over throe hundred thoueaatl dollars,
which she can pay oil at any limr.
None of her counties are in debt in
oonsequenco of tho war. The reason
for this extraordinary exhibit is to bo
found in the luct that her pooplo werlt
out and fought instead otj hiring
others to do so. What a contrast this
is to most of the States that aro now
staggering under millions of debt, in
curred for the purpose of filling their
quotas.
Tub Virginia City Enterprise says:
Tho now telegraph line of the United
States and Pacific Telegraph Company
ii being rapidly and most energetical
ly pushed onward towards completion.
It is already finished lrotn ban 1 ran
oisoo to Carson, and within one week
from now it is thought lLo lir.o win
be completed to this city. In a few
days it will bo completed botweon
here and Austin, there being only a
couplo of miles or so of it remaining
to bo constr icted, which is in Six Mile
Canyon. Carpenters are now at work
propacing'an office for the now ieles
grngh company, in tho south corner
of Wells, Fargo & Co.'s office. When
oompleted, they will commence oper
ations immediately. .
Nothing is more easy than to grow
rich. It is only to trust nobody, bo
' IViotid nobody; to heap intorost upon
interost, cent upon cent;' to destroy
all tho finer foatures of nature and bo
rendered mean, miserable and despised
for some twenty or thirty years, and
riches will come as euro as disease,
disappointment, and a miserable death.
