A Scotch PatebfaWIMab. Mr.
Dickon's All the Year Round has the
following amusing caricature
The Scotch father is Htornly patri
archal. The wife is, in a groat measure,
eubordinnto to him, even in 'domestic
matters. In England and Ireland,
had, indeed, in roost other Cbnotian
countries, the children take their re
ligion and piety from thoir mothers )
but in Scotland they take them from
thoir fathers. This is chiefly to be
observed among the middle and lower
classes. You will find many Scotch
households in the rural distriuts, where
- the father is a sort of putentate in his
house. He has the best room, the best
chair, tho best knife and fork, the
silver spoon. The tit bits and the
luxuries are reserved ior him. Itis
wifo speaks to him with awe and rev
erence, and calls him "Mister," even
to her own relations. When this ma
jestic father expresses his views, his
wife sits mum, never daring to put in
a word. If he be given to religion,
he will have his way in that; if he be
given to whiskytoddy he will have
his way in that also. Ito will decide
the doctrine of predestination, and
equally determine for himself how
