: REPORT OF GRAND JURY.
I TO Till! HoKORABLK J. G. WlLRO.V, JCDOB OF
Circuit Cocrt We, the Grand Jury of Wasco
Couuty, respectfully report that we have in
spected the buildings used fr County pur
poses. We find the hospital small but com
fortable, and inmates well cared fur. The
building used for Court House and Jail, we find
a poor substitute, and recommend the erection
of a more suitable building. The broken stove
now used to warm the tells of the Jail, we be
lieve unsafe, and should be replaced by a bet
ter one. The comfort of the prisoners we ibink
is provided for as well as the nrraugemerts of
the building will admit of.
. Respectfully vours,
(Signed) Euwahd Winoatb,
Foreman of Grand Jury.

stock on tin inoroaso of its capital tp
$3,000,000, equal to eighty eight per cent.
for ono year's profits on a capital lht
did not originally com onohulf of its

capital of S3, 000,000, tho same company
paid, dnring tho first eight months of
tho present year, twentysix percent.
in cash, and twenty-fivo per cont. in
additional paid-up stock, and a fur
thor cash dividend of twenty fivo por

(four months) of the year ovor one
hundred per cont. per annum on its
actual paid up capital. The stock of
this company, at last reports from
New York, was selling at three times
its par value. What wonder, thon,
that the railroads, out of whose legit

. tnado, are taking steps to put an end
to such a useless drain upon thoir
business and the pockets of the people.
