WiiiTft1ffifr'''g'T-tTi,'T'ni ountatnecL A. HEW METHOD OK PVLVKHIZINO ORES. V . t. The Monitor (Alpine county) Ga zette gives the following description of eorae machinery for a quartz mill witii A capacity to pulverize 25 tons dally. The machinery is on the ground, and "the Bostob Company aro about to put it up t ; ' . The maohinery consists first' of a Crusher, .weighing complete with shaft and pulley one ton. With fifteen horse power, making 1,023 revolutions per minute.. One of theso machines will crush gravel size fifteen tons of ordk nary quartz per hour requiring one man to attend the crusher and two to handle the ore. It consists of acireu. lar table or diso of oast iron, threo and a half feet across, with four blades or angular blocks of bard metal on its upper surface near the edge. This table, weighing several hundred pounds is made to whirl with great velocity in the bottom of a cast-iron tub, the sides of which are pierced with holes un inch in diameter. The rock is thrown into the tub against the blades, and ia knocked and beat about until it is small enough to escape through the perforations in the side, when it falls into a wooden chamber ten feet square, from which it is taken out by a shute, and fed into the noxt machine in order the pulverizer which consists of a drum or hollow cylinder of cast iron about three and a half f eet in di ameter, eighteen inches wide, and weighing about one ton, fixed in strong timber work upon solid masonry. The cylindor rests its side wiib a horizontal abaft passing through its axis. This shaft, driven , by. a baud and pully, carries inside tbe drum at a speed of l,vZ6 revolutions per minute, a wheel ot iron exactly resembling the side wheel ot a river steamer, the paddles being of chilled iron of peculiar con struution, and patented. This wheel -is in fact an air-wbeel, and not acrimh er or breaker, therefoie the material must be broken fine by the crusher before being iutroduced to tbe pulven izor r ' .The reduction is not done by rub bing or grinding, but by blows "(riven by the paddie-wheel, by the attrition ,of Ihe particles one against another, and by . the action of the vortices of air created within the cylinder by the rapid motion ot the paddles. Ihe air is admitted with the finely broken quartz, through a central hole in one head of the cylinder and delivered at the other end through a similar hole, the fineness of the pulverization being graduated by tbe admission of more or 'le8d"air : tho current may be made vBtrong enough to carry away the ms terial wben no oner than ordinary corn meal, or.it may bo so moderated that . it passes out in so flue a dust that with out tho use of the epraywheel in . the chamber to which it is introduood, many hours would be required for it to sottlo. Thus tho whole mass may be reduced to .a fineness not attainable even by any pan procoss, and . with this great advantago over any other j-lun, tho gold and silver contained in the ore in a metallio stato is found on examination under tbe microscope to have beaten and rolled into spheroidal pellets, like small snot, instead of be iug rubbed into scales, as by tbe stamp and pan process, therefore not liable to float away during the process of washing and amalgamation, which is ' tho third and last stage in this Boston , chain of processes, a description of wbiQU we are now unable to give, but it is said to bo a decided improvement rover' any others now in use. One of the pulverizers requires twelve horse power, and is capable ot reducing 1,500 to 1,UUU pounds oi quartz per noor the entire yield being nt lor araaiga-'tafttidu.- tThos it 'will be Been -one cruher will supply twenty pulverizers, or it less be used tbe power ordinarily used iu amalgamating may bo devoted aii4our 'or' more oach day to-tbo crusher, and ill -the work earned on pi$h 'comparatively small power:, ,v !
