TaLEaaAPii. The Suit, Lake Union
Vedette, of October 31st, says :
''Ibis new ligutuing lino, with dou
' ble wires, from the lar west to east,
will be in working order before mid.
summer next judging from tbe present
rogros made and effected through
r. Street, tho manager, who has
concludod contracts for the portions
of tbe lino botweeo tbe liny and tbo
Missouri, 6inco bis advent bore from
San Fraucisco. Tbe polos are now
all up between San Francisco and Vir
ginia, Nevada. At least they were to
have been up, on tbe 30th instant,
yesterday, by arrangement of the
General Superintendent, Mr. Gamble,
with the six parties, contractors for
tho said division. From Virginia City
to Austin, .Reese lliver, the contract
for putting up the poles has been let
to J. W. Coleman, one ot tbe oldest
telegraph men in the far West. He
agrees to have his part completed by
the 1st of January next. From, Auss
tin to Scbell Creole, Messrs. Griswold
& Woodward, of Kuby Valley, have
received the contract, and the polos
are to be forwarded by tho 1st of June,
a distance of 154 milos. From Scbell
Creek to Denver, (via Suit Lake City)
tho contract has been mudo with Brig
ham Young, who agreod to have that
section built by August 1st next.
From Deqver to tho Missouri River,
the contraot has been given to James
Creighton, over part ot which line his
own poles a,ro stretched, so that, we
might say, a portion of tho abovo
sub-division is already made. From
Fort Kearney to Atchison and St.
Louis, there will be a divergent line by
this company; and from .Kearney to
Omaha, anolher'to connect with Chi
qngo. Tho line will be in working or
der from this town to San Francisco
by tho 1st of June next. James
Stroot has met with good Buccess here,
contracting and makingarrangements.
Finding the party h ore that he
wanted, Mr. Creighton, ho was not
obliged to go on iurthor east ; hence
his return to day to the Pacific.
A Good Practice. For a great num.
bor of years, it has been tho custom
in' Franco to give to young females of
the earliest age the habit of holding
back tbe shoulders, and thus expand1
ing the chest. From the observation
of anatomists, lately made, Is appears
inat trio clavicle, or collar bone, is ac
tually longer in females of the French
.Nation than in those of the English,
As tho two nations aro of the Caucus
Ian race as thcro is no other remark
able difference in their bones, and this
is peculiar to the sex. it may be attri
buted to tbe habit abovo mentioned,
which by tho extension of tho arms
has gradually produced a national o-
JoDgation of this bono: Thus wo seo
that tho habit may be employed to
alter and improvo tbo solid bones
The French have succeeded in the de
volopmont of a part that adds to
ncalin and beauty.
