4 CULTURE & HERITAGE AUG. 24-31, 2022 CELEBRATING THE HISTORY OF EASTERN OREGON Last few weeks to ‘get wild’ in Pendleton By Jennifer Colton Go! Magazine PENDLETON — There are only two weeks left to “Get Wild in Pendleton.” The second-annual summer event will run until Sept. 3, according to Cheri Rosenberg, Pendleton Chamber of Com- merce chief executive officer. “It’s really successful,” she said. “There’s a little bit of something for every- body.” Rosenberg said Get Wild in Pendleton has multiple events each Saturday, from riding horses and wagons on the Pendle- ton Round-Up Grounds to listening to live music on Main Street. “Definitely make sure you do the Round-Up tours. This is something that is kind of unprecedented,” she said. “It’s pretty substantial to be able to say that you’ve been on horseback in the rodeo arena.” The Shamrock Saloon will be open for those 21 and older both remaining week- ends, offering drinks in the underground bar with staff costumed from the early 1900s. “The saloon there, it really takes you back,” Rosenberg said. “It’s just a really cool experience for people who are crav- ing that old west authentic feel.” Miss Alice (Carey The Pendleton Underground Tours are also offering tours during the events, both traditional tours — open to those 6 and older — during the day and “after hours” adult tours. Reservations for the underground tours are available at www. pendletonundergroundtours.org. The late afternoon mule-drawn wagon rides and the Wild West Show — a musi- cal comedy Western called “The Ballad of Pinky Brown” — have been popular with children and adults. “Kids are always welcome to come down and listen to the music, families seem to enjoy that,” Rosenberg said. Rosenberg also encouraged those attending Get Wild in Pendleton to eat at local restaurants and visit stores and other attractions. She said they are planning to bring back the Saturday events next year. “We’ve already started talking about next year,” she said. “It’s a really positive thing.” Here’s the schedule for the final two Get Wild in Pendleton Saturdays: block of Main Street • Pendleton Underground Shamrock Saloon: 4-7 p.m., 21+, 31 SW Emigrant Ave. • Mechanical Bull: 6-10 p.m., 400 block of Main Street • Live Music: Identities, 6:30-10 p.m., 400 block of Main Street AUG. 27 SEPT. 3 • Wagon Rides: 5-8 p.m., 400 block of Main Street • “The Ballad of Pinky Brown”: 6 p.m., 400 • Pendleton Round Up Tours: 11 a.m.,12:30 p.m., 2 p.m.; 1330 SW Court Ave. Varela) confronts Pinky Brown (Dutch Meerdink) in front of Doo Dah (Andi Jones) and Miss Loretta (Doreen Matteson) during a performance of “The Ballad of Pinky Brown” in downtown Pendleton.
