PENDLETON — This summer, the com-
munity was invited to inspire their creativ-
ity by purchasing items at the Community
Thrift Shop and turn those fi nds into art.
The results are now on display at the
shop, 138 SE Court Ave., which is open
Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
This recycled art show is a collabora-
tion between Pendleton Center for
the Arts and the Community Thrift Shop,
which supports Heritage Station
Museum.
“All of our nonprofi t cultural organiza-
tions have a long working relationship,”
said Roberta Lavadour, PCA executive di-
rector. “Our spirit of collaboration makes
working the cultural community so nice
and really fun.”
This “thrift shop challenge” started
in 2017 when the store was known as
the Bargain Counter and supported the
Pendleton Hospital Auxiliary. Now that the
shop is in a new location and operated by
the museum, the project came back
in 2022.
“We wanted to revive it and make it an
annual event,” Lavadour said.

“It’s a really nice display,” said Jonie
Mills, Community Thrift Shop manager.
The hope of this project, Lavadour
said, was to encourage people to be
inspired by fi nds at the thrift shop — and
support the museum at the same time.
“All artists are inspired by an object or
person or a story, and things evolve from
there,” she said.
