    CRASHES GALORE AT THE
DEMOLITION DERBY
HAINES — The Haines Stampede’s
annual demolition derby is happening
Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Stampede Rodeo
grounds.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m., and the
show starts at 6 p.m.
Admission is $15 adults, $10 seniors/
military, $5 for ages 5-12, and free for 4 and
younger.
Proceeds support the Haines Stam-
pede Rodeo, such as improvements to the
grounds. The rodeo is held annually on July
3 and 4. For more information, visit www.

HOSTS COMIC CON
PENDLETON — The Pendleton Public
Library is hosting its second annual Library
Comic Con on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2-4 p.m.
Library Assistant Heather Culley is orga-
nizing Comic Con again this year after the
success of the inaugural event.
“We had so much fun last year, with great
costumes and cool swag, but this year is
going to be even better,” she said. “It’s a

Public Library, 502 SW Dorion Ave. Admis-
sion is free.
Featured activities include:
• A costume contest
• A one-shot role-playing game
• Vendor booths
• Magic: The Gathering tournament

Additional activities include crafts, a
green-screen photo booth and informational
booths. All library activities will be of ered for
free; vendors may charge for their items.

STREET CARNIVAL OFFERS
OUTDOOR FUN
HERMISTON — An old-fashioned street
carnival is planned in Hermiston.
Serving as a fundraiser for Desert Rose
Ministries, there is no admission charge. The
event is Saturday, Aug. 6, noon to 5 p.m. at
512 E. Main St.
Activities will include a dunk tank, kiddie
carnival, bouncy house, games, a petting
zoo, face painting, cornhole tournament, 50-
50 raö e, a pie-eating contest and a silent
auction. In addition, there will be prizes, food
and music.

HERITAGE STATION
ANNOUNCES SUMMER HOURS
PENDLETON — Heritage Station Mu-
seum recently resumed its summer hours.
Located at 108 SW Frazer Ave., the mu-
seum is now open seven days a week —
Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.,
and Sundays 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Regular admission is $5 for adults, $4/
seniors, $2/students and free for mem-
bers and children younger than 5. And
admission is free on the o rst Saturday of
each month.
In addition to the main galleries,
the museum grounds feature the Byrd
Schoolhouse, the Barn and Homestead,
the Fix Cabin and the Caboose. Also, Pio-
neer Day returns to the museum on Aug.
20, noon to 3 p.m. And special evening
programs are periodically of ered on

GRAB YOUR SWEETIE AND
HEAD TO THE RIVER
UMATILLA — The city of Umatilla is
hosting a couples paddle boarding/kay-
aking class. The two-day class is Sept
10-11, 4-6 p.m., at Umatilla Marina Park.
The class is open to ages 18 and up,
and the registration fee is $30.
Day one of the class consists of
learning how to use the paddle boards
and kayaks, water safety, paddling
techniques and more. Day two features
a paddle boarding/kayaking adventure
down the Columbia River from McNary
Dam to the Umatilla Marina. Life jackets
are required and will be provided for
participants.
