The public is invited to hear a variety of musical genres while enjoying the scenic beauty on the banks of the Columbia River. The free summer concerts alternate between the marina parks in Boardman, 1 N.E. Marine Drive, and Irrigon, 430 N.E. Eighth St., each Monday at 7 p.m. — except the Fourth of July — through Aug. 1. In case of inclement weather, the show will go on with a change of venue; Boardman events will be at the SAGE Center, 101 Olson Road, and Irrigon shows will be at Stokes Landing Senior Center, 150 Columbia Lane. While the concert series began June 6, there’s plenty of opportunities to ride the vibe through the rest of the season: • June 13: Wasteland Kings (Irrigon) Packing venues across the region and beyond, The Wasteland Kings hail from La Grande. With such influ- ences as the Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters and Townes Van Zandt, the seasoned musi- cians add their own unique twist to the Americana sound. • June 20: Blue Mt. Span- ish Sound (Boardman) An acoustic guitar duo based in Walla Walla, Jesse Campos and Lance Smith play original classical guitar music with Latin influences. Arrangements are with Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. Lyle Raymond Greene March 12, 1952 - May 20, 2022 Lyle Raymond Greene, 70, of Pendleton, died at his home on May 20, 2022. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 11, 2022, at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery in Heppner, Oregon. He was born on March 12, 1952, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Donald James and Kathleen George Green. The family left Iowa and lived in several states following construction jobs. Lyle started school in Eagle, Idaho, and attended schools at The Dalles, before graduating from Pendleton High School in 1970. Lyle fished several seasons in southeast Alaska with his friend Jim Olson and drove long-haul trucks for several years. He worked many years for Pendleton Grain Growers, driving for Hermiston Agronomy, Hermiston Trucking Department and the McKennon Seed Plant. After retiring, he drove in harvest for his nephew, Jeff Harth. In 1980, a son, Andrew, was born, and daughter, Tana, was born in 1988. On June 10, 1995, Lyle married Jojean Stevens. Survivors include Lyle’s wife, Jojean, son, Andrew; daughter, Tana; stepson, Kyle; his mother, Kate Greene; his sister, Susan Pollock, and her husband, Bob; a brother, Clint Green, and his wife, Becky; and Cliff Greene, and his wife, Julie; Mark Greene, and his wife, Tammy; his father and mother-in-law, Bob and Judy Stevens; brother-in-law, John Stevens; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. JoAnn ‘Joey’ Bechtel Sabra Jean Gardner-Crysler November 20, 1950 - February 28, 2022 April 6, 1946 - June 3, 2022 JoAnn (Joey) Bechtel passed away at her home Feb. 28, 2022, after a long battle with breast cancer. A graveside service will be held at the Elgin Cemetery on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 2 p.m. Casual dress is preferred by the family. Joey was born in La Grande, Oregon, Nov. 20, 1950, to Clarence Bechtel and June (Hug) Bechtel. She grew up in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School in 1969 and later achieved her associate’s degree from Blue Mountain Community College. Joey settled in Pendleton, Oregon, and retired from DHS, Community Developmental Disabilities Program for Umatilla County. Joey had three children, Sybil Tremper, Mark George and Josh Swegle. Joey’s pride and joy were her grandchildren, Andrew, Brayden, Caleb, Dawson, Owen, Gavin and granddaughter, Olivia. Joey married John Straughan in 2009. In marriage, Joey gained two children, Bryn Stamets and Nick Straughan; and more grandchildren, Michael, Kenzie and Mady. Joey was known for her love of gardening. She was a member of Pendleton’s Dirt Dabblers club and took pride in their work throughout Pendleton’s city gardens. She also loved her animals, nature walks, garden tours, bird watching, antiques, estate sales, farmers markets, her grandchildren’s sporting events and family trips. Joey’s beautiful free spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Joey was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and June Bechtel of La Grande, Oregon. Joey is survived by brother, Douglas Bechtel of Cornelius, Oregon; niece, Terresa Bechtel of Oregon City, Oregon; Sybil and Rob Tremper and their children, Andrew, Brayden, Caleb and Dawson of Pendleton, Oregon; Mark and Jaymi George and their children, Owen and Olivia of La Grande, Oregon; Josh Swegle of Pendleton and Gavin Swegle of Ninilchik, Alaska; husband, John Straughan of Pendleton, Oregon; and her dog, Murphy. Sabra Crysler, 76, passed from this Earth on June 3, 2022, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, in Walla Walla, Washington. Sabra was born in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, to Bill and Ruth Gardner. At the age of 6, her family moved to Pilot Rock, Oregon, where she went to school until high school. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1964. She worked for attorney Harold Fabre for many years as a legal assistant, and finished her career as a circuit court clerk, working 14 years for the Oregon Judicial Department. In 1964, she married the man she would be with for 54 years, the Rev. Kenneth Crysler. She would be by his side through college, seminary, 30 years of teaching and circuit-riding for the Diocese of Eastern Oregon and 15 years of declining health. She loved him as much at the end as she did in the beginning. She was a member of OREALS, many of the guilds at the Church of the Redeemer (Pendleton), the Cursillo Community of Eastern Oregon and the Pendleton Kiwanis Club. She loved to garden, fly fish and was an accomplished alto in many choirs. She enjoyed traveling and had been to Mexico, Canada and Western Australia, where her daughter lives. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She was an “adopted mom” to many of her children's friends and was “Nana” to so many more. She loved and was loved, by so many. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Shirley Marshall (Lafe); and brother, Dean Gardner (Patty); and her beloved husband, Ken. She is survived by brother, Stan Gardner (Laura) of Pendleton; son, Ken Crysler (Christine) of Ontario, Oregon; daughter, Sabrina Gillespie (Cameron) of Secret Harbour, Western Australia; and her five grandchildren, Gabe (Megan), Evangeline, Jessica, Kage and Ella. A celebration of life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Pendleton, Oregon, at 1 p.m. on June 21. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in the Crysler Parish Hall of Redeemer.
