Registration deadline is June 9 East Oregonian MILTON-FR EEWA- TER — It’s time to dust off the golf clubs and take a few practice swings as the P.E.O. Golf Tournament returns this year. The two-person alter- nate shot event is Satur- day, June 11, 8:30 a.m. at the Milton-Freewater Golf Course, 301 Catherine Ave. Players can enter the men’s, women’s or mixed divi- sions. The entry fee of $50 per person includes green fees and lunch. Additional lunch tickets are $10. The event also features games and prizes, including a contest for the longest putt, closest to the pin and the shortest drive. The entry deadline for players is Thursday, June 9. Also, with a limited number available, reservations are required for golf carts. The golf tournament helps provide grants and scholarships through P.E.O., an international women’s philanthropic educational organization that supports and celebrates the advance- ment of women. According to a press release from Gail Beeson, P.E.O. has provided $398 million in finan- cial assistance to 119,000 women. “Your support makes a diff erence,” she said. Ju l ie t a P u l id o of Milton-Freewater expressed gratitude for assistance provided by P.E.O. She said the nonprofi t organi- zation helped jumpstart her career as a registered dental hygienist at Broad- way Family Dental. “The hygiene program was expensive to start, even after a few years of saving, so the scholarship I received ensured my start date for the program,” Pulido said. “I appreciated so much what they did for me, that I became a member with hopes of helping another woman in the future reach her career goals and life dreams”. Ruby Mitchell, another local recipient of educa- tional funds, is pursuing a master’s degree in public health at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, in Portland. With a focus on environmental systems and human health, she’s on track to graduate in June 2023. To register for the tournament, call George Gillette at 541-938-7284 or stop by the pro shop at the golf course. For more information about P.E.O. International, visit www. peointernational.org.
