WEDNESDAY, MAY 18
Susan B. ‘Susy’ Dewald
2:17 a.m. — A caller on Southeast Fourth Street, Irrigon,
reported an ongoing issue about loud music. A Morrow County
sheriff ’s deputy responded and gave a warning about excessive
noise.
10:08 a.m. — Pilot Rock Police Department is investigating a
theft complaint that occurred on Southwest Cedar Street, in which
a package was dropped off to the wrong address. A child at the resi-
dence told police her older sister took the package back to the post
offi ce. The post offi ce stated no one has dropped off the package.
10:31 a.m. — A 911 caller on Highway 11, Pendleton, reported a
physical domestic disturbance. Law enforcement responded.
11:40 a.m. — Stanfi eld police initiated activity on North Harri-
man Street for livestock on property, including chickens, roosters,
goat and an unlicensed dog.
12:01 p.m. — Hermiston police responded to the 900 block of
Northwest Stockton Street on a report of a burglary. Police took a
report.
1:19 p.m. — A Morrow County sheriff ’s deputy responded to
Dollar General, 125 Columbia Lane, Irrigon, on a report of an irate
customer causing a disturbance about a purchase. A deputy tres-
passed the customer.
8:56 p.m. — Hermiston police received a report of an assault on
the 900 block of South Highway 395. Offi cers checked the area but
did not fi nd anyone.
10:03 p.m. — A caller reported someone broke into a motor
home on Northeast Washington Avenue, Irrigon, and then took off .
Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce responded and took a report.
10:24 p.m. — Pendleton police responded to the 600 block of
Southwest First Street on a report of an assault.
10:34 p.m. — A caller reported a male was lying on the side
of Interstate 84 eastbound near Boardman. Police and medics
responded. An ambulance transported the male.
THURSDAY, MAY 19
9:20 a.m. — A caller on West Highland Avenue, Hermiston,
asked to speak to an offi cer about road construction blocking the
view of oncoming traffi c.
11:15 a.m. — A caller told Hermiston police her daughter’s
ex-boyfriend broke into their home on Northwest Spruce Street
and stole several items. She said she wanted police to make a
report and asked for options. Police advised her.
1:38 p.m. — Pilot Rock police responded to Southwest Third
Street for a domestic disturbance.
4:08 p.m. — A caller reported damage to the U.S. Postal Service,
167 N. Main St., Heppner.
4:29 p.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to
Northwest Geer Road and West Theater Lane, Hermiston, after
receiving a 911 call about a domestic disturbance.
7:41 p.m. — Umatilla County sheriff ’s deputies responded to
South First Street, Athena, for the theft of a vehicle.
8:22 p.m. — Hermiston police received a report of a domestic
disturbance on Southwest Seventh Street.
8:50 p.m. — A caller reported a man on a bicycle was harassing
two teenage girls at the Irrigon Skate Park, Irrigon, then left head-
ing west on Highway 730.
11:29 p.m. — Pendleton police handled a disturbance at Shari’s
Restaurant, 319 S.E. Nye Ave.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
May 19
• Umatilla police arrested Jake Ammon Long, 28, for possession
of a stolen vehicle and supplying contraband (drug law violation),
both felonies.
• Boardman police arrested Juan De La Cruz Lopez, 33, for
fi rst-degree burglary, two counts of harassment and on a warrant
for failure to appear.
• Pilot Rock police arrested Scott Dale Shattuck, 59, for fourth-de-
gree assault and resisting arrest.

Susan B. “Susy” Dewald, 63, died May 18, 2022, in Rich-
land, Washington. She was born Dec. 22, 1958, in Boze-
man, Montana. The family is hosting a private celebration of

Rochelle Marcene (Marcy) Newton

Clinton (Ray) Montgomery
February 17, 1934 - January 25, 2022
Ray was born in Holdman,
Oregon, to Alfred C. Montgomery
and Lucy Mae Cole. He went
to school at Holdman and then
to Pendleton. He started driving
tractor, pulling combine at the age
of 14.
He had two brothers and one
sister who preceded him in death.
He married Kathy Parish on
Nov. 20, 1954. They had one son, Scott Montgomery,
of Pendleton, Oregon.
Ray was very good at shop work. He overhauled
combines and tractors and whatever else for the farmers.
Ray’s loves were his family, traveling to Wallowa and
farming.
We would like to thank Suttle Care for the excellent
care they gave Ray. We would also like to thank our
friends, neighbors, and family for all of the food and
caring phone calls.

Janie Marie (Horn) Giesler
January 26, 1950 - May 9, 2022
Janie Marie (Horn) Giesler was
born on Jan. 26, 1950, in Pendle-
ton, Oregon, to Fred and Lucile
Horn. Janie grew up on the Horn
family ranch outside of Pilot Rock,
Oregon. She attended elementary
and junior/senior high school in Pi-
lot Rock, graduating in 1968, and
went on to attend business college
in Portland, Oregon.
In 1970, Janie gave birth to her
son, Brian, followed by her daughter, Andrea, in 1974.
She then moved back to Pilot Rock, Oregon, to raise
her children. It was here she rekindled her relationship
with Albert Giesler, whom she attended school with.
They married in July of 1980 surrounded by family and
friends. They would remain married until Albert’s death
in 2020, shortly after celebrating their 40th anniversary
together.
Janie’s greatest joy in life was her family and friends,
and she especially loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed
gatherings with her loved ones, rivaled only to her great
love of jewelry. Janie was always in the pursuit of the
perfect clip-on earrings to match with her outfits. Janie
was an animal lover and had a special fondness for pigs,
she had quite the collection of figurines. Her cat, Teddy,
was her constant companion.
Janie is preceded in death by her father and mother,
Fred and Lucile Horn; and her husband, Albert Giesler.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph Horn of Port-
land, Oregon; her son, Brian Patten; her daughter, An-
drea Munkers; and her grandchildren, Trevor, Cade and
Ashton, all of Pilot Rock, Oregon.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, May 14
at the Life Church in Pilot Rock, Oregon. If you would
like to make a donation in memory of Janie, please do-
nate to PAWS/Pioneer Humane Society of Pendleton,
Oregon. The family would like to extend their gratitude
to Pilot Rock Emergency Services and Officer Daniel
Badal of the PRPD.
Marcy passed away suddenly
and peacefully into the Arms
of her Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ, on the morning of April
20, 2022 in Pasco, WA. She was
82. Marcy was born July 23, 1939
in Pendleton, Oregon to Parents:
Ralph Templeton and Effie Estelle
(Snyder) Templeton. She grew
up in Pendleton and Hermiston,
Oregon with her mother, father,
2-sisters, half-sister, half-brother and step-mother.
Marcy graduated from Hermiston High School in
1957.
At the age of 18 she married her first sweetheart,
Joseph F. F. Aragon on June 19, 1959 in Coeur
d’Alene, Idaho. Joseph and Marcy had their first
daughter Antonia in Hermiston, Ore., son Frederick
in Tacoma, Wash. and daughter, Jasa in Pueblo,
Colo. She and Joseph enjoyed their time together
and raising their three children. She and Joseph were
divorced in 1973. After she moved back to Hermiston
she married Oliver Earl Dean McBride a few months
later and divorced in 1978.
On June 8, 1991, at the age of 50, she met and
married Robert (Bob) Steven Newton. He was a
millwright/welder/construction worker on many large
projects in Oregon and Washington. Bob and Marcy
enjoyed many years traveling and camping with their
pickup and trailer and enjoying the northwest. They
enjoyed their many friends and were active members
of the Good Sam Club and Moose Lodge. Marcy
was a Fraternal Member of the Eagles and also a
Red Hatter. They were also long time members of
Riverview Baptist Church in Pasco and attended with
many friends regularly.
She Retired from Lamb Weston in Hermiston and
devoted many years as a Care Giver in the Pasco area.
We will all miss her smile, love and celebrations
with her many friends and family. She had a wonderful
sense of humor, and love for her Savior, Jesus. She
was always just a small town farm girl. Her laughter
still rings in our ears. Marcy’s ashes will be buried in
the Snyder family plot, Olney Cemetery in Pendleton
Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents,
Mother (Effie) and Father (Ralph). Marcy is survived
by her Husband, Robert Steven Newton, three
Aragon, Children, Antonia (Toni) Marie, Frederick R.
and Jasa Michelle. Step children, Kay, Bob, Jerry and
Susan. Also, her, Templeton Siblings, Patricia Ann
and Vivian Elizabeth, Half-brother, Thomas Ralph
and Half-Sister, Rhonda Susan. Half-Sister, Frances
Snyder.
The family would like to thank the Caregivers
and First Responders for their services. Gravesite
services to be held at a later date at Olney Cemetery,
Pendleton, Oregon.
The Neptune Society of Spokane, WA is
coordinating arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations
to be made to Riverview Baptist Church, 4900 W.

Michael Joseph Daly
August 22, 1953 - April 18, 2022
Michael Joseph Daly, 68, of
Pendleton, died April 18, 2022,
at his home. He was born August
22, 1953, in Granard, County
Longford, Ireland, to Michael and
Bridgett (Keegan) Daly.
He attended school in Ireland.
His father died when he was 13 so
he started working to help support
his family. At age 19, he immigrated to the United
States, moving to Eastern Oregon to work in the local
mill. He held various jobs until he was hired by the
Doherty family as a sheep herder. He worked for them
for many years.
On April 20, 1996, he married Beverly Joyce Long
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pendleton. He enjoyed
listening to Irish music, going back to Ireland to visit
family and friends and his beloved dogs. He had a great
work ethic and was loved by all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joyce
Daly; brothers, Vincent Daly of Canada, Eddie Daly
of Ireland; sisters, Helen Dunne of Canada, Bridgett
Daly of Pennsylvania; step-children, James Woodell of
Pendleton, Brenda Carr of England, Brian Woodell of
Monument and numerous cousins and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on
Monday, May 23, 2022, at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel,
Folsom-Bishop.
Edna Deloris Wilson
October 13, 1936 - May 7, 2022
Edna Deloris Wilson of
Hermiston, Oregon, was born on
Oct. 13, 1936, in Heppner, Oregon,
to parents, Edgar and Mildred
Wilson Morris. She died on May 7,
2022, in Hermiston, Oregon, at the
age of 85 years.
Edna was raised and attended
school in Heppner, Oregon,
graduating from Heppner High
School in the class of 1954. While in high school, she
began working as a nurse’s aide at Pioneer Memorial
Hospital and continued to work there after graduating.
Edna married Maynard Struthers Sr. and operated
an in-home daycare for several years. Maynard passed
away in 2001 and she later married John Wilson in 2005
and he passed away in October of 2021. She has lived
in Hermiston, Oregon, for the past 30 years and was
a member of the Umatilla Assembly of God, Umatilla,
Oregon. Edna enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint,
crossword and word search puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Dena Wiese, and her
husband, Lyle, Hammond, Oregon; son, Joe Struthers,
and his wife, Sarah, Clovis, New Mexico; sisters, Edie
Morris, Prineville, Oregon; Florence Nolan, Everett,
Washington; and Doris Brosnan, Heppner, Oregon;
brothers, Kip Morris, Madras, Oregon; and Bob Morris,
Condon, Oregon; grandchildren, Aubry, Rebecca,
Melissa, Bradley, David, Jonathan, Maria, Robyn,
Tracy, Trudy and Trisha; numerous great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her husbands,
her parents, sons, Jack, Bill and Gary Struthers; and
brothers, Jim and Randy Morris.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 27,
2022, at 10 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston,
Oregon.

Kathleen Renee Goodwin
January 9, 1963 - May 8, 2022
Kathleen Renee Goodwin
passed away peacefully Sunday,
May 8, 2022, after a valiant struggle
with a recurrence of metastatic
breast cancer at the age of 59.
Kate was born at Community
Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon, to
Richard and Marlene (Lorenzen)
Goodwin on Wednesday, Jan. 9,
1963. She attended St. Joseph’s
Academy until fifth grade, sixth
grade at Hawthorne Elementary and subsequent years at
Helix, graduating in 1981 from Griswold High School.
She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1985
with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.),
business, management, marketing and related support
services.
Upon graduation, Kate’s family moved her to the
Portland/Beaverton area. It would be the first of 12
moves; one move included Connecticut. She worked
for various companies before starting her 20-year
tenure with Ricoh USA, Inc. as a branch controller, then
business analyst and spent the last 11 years as a project
manager. Her recent employment was with Genentech
as an access solutions case manager. Although Kate
moved away from the family’s Century Farm where she
was raised, she remained actively involved in the farm’s
activities, making sure we all were doing what we
should be doing until her death. She enjoyed traveling,
quilting, and spoiling her two beloved cats, Meg and
Frieda. She will be remembered not only as a beloved
family member but as a friend to many.
Kate was preceded in death by her grandparents,
Lloyd and Ruth Goodwin, and Gus and Florence
Lorenzen. She is survived by her parents, Richard and
Marlene Goodwin; brothers, David Goodwin and Paul
Goodwin; sister-in-law, Julie; niece, Courtlyn Goodwin
(Sam Adams); nephew, Andrew (Macy) Goodwin; and
niece, Ana (Jarred) Cope.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June
4, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Olney Cemetery, 865 Tutuilla
Road, in Pendleton, Oregon. Pendleton Pioneer
Chapel, Folsom-Bishop is in charge of arrangements.
